2014 Endowment Scholarship
The AusIMM Melbourne Student Chapter (MSC) is committed to providing students with the ability to enhance
their potential for professional excellence within the mining industry. We provide students with opportunities to
extend their knowledge beyond that offered by university curriculum. Consistent with this aim, the AusIMM
MSC is offering a limited number of students the opportunity to obtain monetary assistance to facilitate their
education relating to the mining and minerals industry.
Available Scholarships
The AusIMM MSC, in conjunction with the AusIMM Melbourne Branch, shall award the following scholarships in
the first and second semester of 2014:
March 2014 Applications
9 x $200 Endowment Scholarships
August 2014 Applications
9 x $200 Endowment Scholarships
Claimable Items
The awarding of scholarships will based on the merit of claimable items towards the professional development of
the applicant. Whilst not definitive, the following claimable items are considered to be nominally appropriate:
 Field equipment
 Text books
 Software packages
The items stated are a guide and the decision towards an appropriate ‘claimable item’ is entirely up to the
discretion of the AusIMM Melbourne Branch.
Eligibility Criteria
To be eligible for monetary assistance, students must:
 be a current member of the AusIMM MSC
 have purchased a claimable item that is directly related to the mining and minerals industry
 have purchased a claimable item that contributes towards the applicant’s professional development
 have completed the AusIMM MSC Endowment Scholarship Application Form
 provide a copy of their academic transcript, demonstrating:
o an average grade greater than 65%
o no grades less than 70% in the past 6 months
o no failed subjects in the past year
Each application will be assessed on a case-to-case basis. Therefore, students that do not meet the minimum
academic requirements are also encouraged to apply.
Compliance with the above requirements does not guarantee that applicants will be successful. The success of
submissions under the AusIMM MSC Conference and Short Course Scholarship program is discretionary and
subject to approval by the AusIMM Melbourne Branch. It is also subject to the overall availability of the Student
Chapter’s funds.

Reimbursement of Agreed Scholarship Amount
Successful applicants will be reimbursed with the agreed amount (can be up to $200) once the AusIMM MSC has
been provided with a copy of the payment receipt for approved claimable items.
The amount will be transferred to a bank account nominated by the applicant via bank transfer (EFT). Cash will
NOT be provided.
Application Submission and Approval
Applications for the AusIMM MSC Endowment Scholarship will be accepted twice yearly during these periods:
 1st to 31st March 2014
 1st to 31st August 2014
Applications will be responded to before the end of May and Ocotber 2014 respectively, to the email address
provided on the AusIMM MSC Endowment Scholarship Application Form.
