Job Descriptions:
 Prepares the operating room for surgery and assembles the surgical instruments used in the
operation.
Observe sterile techniques all the times.
Get a patient ready for the surgery process and establish rapport.
Answer patient queries regarding the surgery and prepare them mentally to withstand the
rigors of the surgery.
 Administer required medicines before surgery and note their vital signs.
In case of any abnormality is noticed in the patient they will report it to the surgeon to
determine whether surgery should performed as scheduled or postponed.
 Make the operation room ready for the surgery. Arrange all the necessary tools and put them
in place. Ensure safety for all personnel and patient in the operating room.
 Check and make sure that all operation room equipment is in good condition and functioning
properly. Any problem with equipment should be reported to technicians and repaired
immediately or make stand by equipment available. The operation should take place
smoothly.
 Assist the surgeon and provide the right surgical tools as the surgeon may need them during
operation.
 Work with full cooperation with other operation room staff to ensure smooth operations.
 Keep checking and monitoring the vital signs of the patient during operation.
 Take care of the patient. Keep checking and monitoring the vital signs and health condition
of the patient after the operation. Administer medicines as prescribed.
 Inform the patient about restriction of movement and other measures that should be followed
 Assist to hold or pass equipment to the surgeons, and responsible for safely discarding any
used supplies, such as syringes, soaked sponges and other contaminated supplies once the
surgery is over.
 Responsible for supervising and directing patient care in an operating room, while ensuring
that proper techniques are used according to accepted standards.
 Report any unusual occurrences to surgeon in charge, document patient records.
 Maintain count on sponges, needles, and other instruments used in the operating room.
 Scrub nurse when necessary, prepare the operative area, position the patient, and adjust the
table according to standard policies.
 Ensure all supplies and equipment required are sterile and available for use; observe any
changes in the patient’s condition, ensure all medications are administered and charted, care
for specimens and cultures as directed.
