Introductory Statement Foo Zhen Lin was a student of Chung Cheng High School (Main) from 2011 to 2014. Intellectual Independence and Passion for Learning Zhen Lin is effectively bilingual in both English and Chinese. His proficiency in the Chinese Language is evident from the distinction he scored in the 2013 GCE O-Level Chinese Language Examination and from the good results he obtained in the HSK (Level 5) Examination. A fluent speaker of both English and Chinese languages, he has also developed a flair in writing English essays, as seen from his consistently high marks in free writing. Other than his proficiency in the languages, Zhen Lin also possesses a keen interest in the Sciences, often scoring Distinctions in Physics, which lead to him being chosen to represent the school in the 2013 Spelling Bee Competition, attaining a Merit award. Due to his exemplary results in Mathematics, scoring numerous Distinctions in the four years of his secondary education, he had also been chosen to represent the school in the Australian Mathematics Competition in 2013. Zhen Lin ensured that his work was of high quality all the time and was punctually submitted, a testament of his self-discipline. An independent and diligent student, he would not fail to approach the teachers after class whenever he has any doubts. He has a positive mindset towards learning, and takes pride in his own learning. Interpersonal Skills As can be seen from his achievements in Co-Curricular Activities (CCA), Zhen Lin is able to balance his studies with his involvement in Robotics. He was selected to represent the school for many competitions, one of which is the IDE Competition in 2012. He also represented the school for the DSTA-DTO East Zone Robotics Challenge 2013 at Victoria Junior College, where his team clinched the Gold medal. He has also represented the school for the National Earthquake Competition 2014 at Singapore Polytechnic, where his team won the Merit award. Also, he was chosen to take part in the National Junior Robotics Competition at Singapore Science Centre for three years consecutively; in 2011, 2012 and 2013. Being conscious of the need to contribute to the society, Zhen Lin actively participated in the school’s Community Involvement Programme (CIP) as well as the Values In Action (VIA) programmes. In 2013, he took part in a service learning project with Food From The Heart, where he was responsible for the packing and distribution of food packets to the homes of the less fortunate. In 2014, he also took part in a Flag Day programme by the Make-A-Wish foundation, where he went to Middle Road to raise funds for the less healthy children. He also participated as a host for the “Celebrating Mountbatten Seniors”, where he had to show the elderly around the school and serve them lunch in the school hall. Personal Attributes Zhen Lin is respectful and friendly to his teachers and peers, and is mindful of the feelings of others, weighing his words carefully before speaking to prevent misunderstandings. Optimistic and open-minded, he does not allow setbacks to discourage him, and is open to feedback and ideas for him to improve. Being aware of his strengths and weaknesses, he knows how to build on his personal strengths, and is willing to go the extra mile to improve on his weaknesses. He always strives for the best, working towards his goals in a determined manner. With a flexible mindset, he displays an ability to think and reason well, and is able to explore issues from different perspectives.
