In the bottom right hand corner
there is two cars that are
crashed into each other. They
are both two door cars. The car
on the right says NWC on the
back window and the one on the
left say HBC on the back
window. Below it in a bubble it
says battle in capitals and under
that it says 1816. Above this car
crash there is a buffalo. To the
upper left of this is a paper that
says “Rupert’s Land sold to
Canada for 1.5 million dollars”.
To the right of that there is three
men they all have beards and
mustaches and on the on the far
right is carrying a clipboard and
the man to his left has a pick axe
and the man to his left is not
holding anything. Above them is
a railroad track but it is not
finished and on one of the
pieces it says 1878 but also in
front of the railroad track there
is a tornado which is creating
wind. There are four guys
holding onto the bottom of the
tornado. The one at the top has
an N on his shirt, the one below
him has a W on it, the one below
him has an M on his and the one
below him has a P on it. At the
top of the tornado there is a
man’s face and above the man’s
face also in the right top corner
there is a building that has three
steps four columns and a roof.
To the right of it there is an
arrow pointing to a box and
inside the box is a dollar sign,
the word tax and a maple leaf
and below picture that there is a
compass placed on a small
house. The face on the tornado
is saying in a speech bubble “You
-Two cars crashing represent the
battle of seven oaks which was
between the HBC and NWC. The
battle started because of
governor from the Selrik colony
who created a rule that
pemmican was to not be taken
out of the colony. He also
created law that running of
buffalo was then illegal which
would stop aboriginals from
gaining food, clothing and
income. The Metis were angered
with this so they threatened to
burn crops and house; they also
threatened to steal animals and
agriculture tools. The battle only
lasted 15 minutes but resulted in
the two companies merging into
one
-The buffalo represents the fur
trade which happened with the
aboriginals and the HBC and
NWC before they were one
company. But buffalo became
extinct and it started getting
harder for aboriginals
-The piece of paper that says
Rupert’s land on it represents
the proof that Canada purchased
Rupert’s land for how much it
was bought for
-The Three men that all have
beards and mustaches are the
members of the Syndicate who
were in charge of building the
CPR but later needed help from a
man named William Van Horne
to speed up the process
-The tornado represents John A
Macdonald who caused chaos
with the metis and aboriginals
and that’s why the two houses
represent the Metis who were
half First Nations and half
European and they were created
John A Macdonald is the bad guy
and like a tornado is ruining
everything and creating chaos
with his helpers the NWMP;
doing so with the Pacific Scandal,
trying to destroy Metis and
Aboriginals Cultural with
residential schools, not fully
meeting the treaties, buying
Rupert’s Land, the Red river
Rebellion the Northwest
Rebellion and Louis Riel getting
hung . The Only good things that
he did at the time were the
National Policy which including
Tariffs, Expanding west and
building and the CPR.
can go build the CPR now!” to a
man on his left who has a beard
and mustache but he also has
some money in his hand and one
of the pieces has the 1872
written on it. Below him starting
to get moved by the tornado is
two houses the smaller one has
two windows and a door at the
door there is a door mat that
says metis; at the second house
which is to the left it is a bigger
house with also two windows
and a door in the center. There
is also this house has a front
porch. Like the house before this
one also has a door mat but it
says aboriginals. To the left of
these houses there is some gusts
of wind and caught in the wind
created by the tornado is a piece
of paper that says aboriginal
treaties with some writing and
numbers below it. Below this is a
rain cloud and then going
straight down to the bottom
there is a flag with an infinity
symbol on it with a man with
curly hair and a mustache above
the flag. To the left there is
another flag with that has a lot
of detail on it with a shield like
shape in the right side with little
maple leafs around it and on the
left corner there is a small
British flag. Above this flag is a
man; the same one who’s face is
on the tornado and he is getting
rained on by the rain cloud but
with these two flags there is an
arrow above them pointing to a
bird with a cloth in its mouth, on
the cloth it says Manitoba 1870
and in the cloth is a baby. Then
to the left of this there is a man
who has just gotten struck by
lightning; the lightning bolt says
Batoche and Nov 1885 and has
because European men from the
NWC where encouraged to
marry first nations women to
help create a bond with the
company and their providers so
when they would marry they
would also have children who
would be Metis.
- The Men holding on to the
tornado represent the NWMP
because they were ordered by
John A Macdonald to control the
west and were on his side, they
also fought in many battles such
as Batoche, they also had a big
role in helping Canada expand
west by occupying the west area
so Americans would not come in
and claim the land
-the building that has 3 steps
four columns and a roof is a
symbol for government which
just shows what John A
Macdonald’s role was supposed
to be
-The man he is saying ““You can
go build the CPR now!” is Hugh
Allan who promised by John to
build the CPR when Hugh bribed
John with campaign money
which helped him win the
election which was known as the
Pacific Scandal where people
from the liberal party found out
this happened and then made
him close parliament and they
had to investigate this case but
what ended up happening is
John A Macdonald investigated is
own case so it was very biased
and he ended up going back into
parliament and then created the
National Policy
-the arrow pointing into the box
represents going in and the box
that has a dollar sign, the word
tax and a maple leaf which
together represents the tariffs
died, this man is the same on
who was above the flag with
the infinite sign who has curly
hair and a mustache. Around
him at his feet there is a duck
and in a small creek there is a
fish. Above the cloud with the
lighting is a guy who has long
hair and has on a prison outfit
that has black and white stripes
and he looks sad. There’s an
arrow pointing to a building that
looks like a school with one main
building and two smaller ones,
one on each side. There is
another arrow pointing to what
is the same guy coming out of
the school but he is wearing
different clothing. He is wearing
normal pants and a shirt with a
maple leaf on it.
John A Macdonald raised which
is a part of the National Policy
- The Compass with a circle
around the west placed on top of
the houses represents settling in
the west which was one part of
the national policy
- The railroad tracks John A
Macdonald is on represents
building the CPR which was
another part of the national
policy he created
- The piece of paper caught in
the wind that says aboriginal
treaties represents how John A
Macdonald just put their needs
and rights to the side and focus
more on Canada; treaties were
not quite fair to Metis because
they were given what they asked
for but John A Macdonald found
ways around giving them exactly
what they wanted by giving them
cheap broken things or not
sufficient amounts of it, things
that made it easier for him
-The flag with an infinity symbol
represents the metis because
that is their flag; the man above
it is Louis Riel because he was
the leader of the metis in the
rebellion. The flag to the left
represents Canada because was
their flag, the man above it is
John A MacDonald who led
Canada and these two flags
beside each other represents the
Red River Rebellion because it
was those two groups that were
fighting but John A Macdonald is
getting rained on from the
raincloud because Canada ended
up losing this Rebellion; the
causes of the rebellion was but
with the arrow pointing to the
bird with a cloth holding a baby
in its mouth represents how this
rebellion caused Manitoba to be
created with the Manitoba Act in
1870
-The creek with a fish in it is a
symbol for the fish creek battle
and the duck beside it is a
symbol for the battle at Duck
Lake and the lightning bolt is a
symbol of defeat at the final
battle of Batoche for Louis Riel.
The whole picture represents the
North-west rebellion and the
causes of it was the aboriginals
had issues with the buffalos
becoming distinct also most of
their land had been given away
in treaties; Canadians were
building railways and towns on
their land. The Metis had not
been happy with the creation of
Manitoba and the buffalo
becoming extinct did not help
them either,
-The person in a prison outfit
going into the school and the
same person leaving it but with a
maple leaf on their shirt
represents the Residential
schools they forced aboriginal
children to go to and how they
were treated just as badly if not
worse as prisoners and were
expected to leave the residential
schools being more Canadian
and religious than when they
arrived by making them speak
English, believe in god and pray
and by punishing them.
