Speech/Writing Process Students will produce the following: 1. Scavenger Hunt: (Answer questions using sources that YOU WILL NEED for your speech!) 2. Working Bibliography: This working bibliography will contain all of the information you will need about every source you look at, regardless of whether you actually end up using that source in your speech. Word process the working bibliography in correct MLA format. See pages 380-409 in Everyday Writer (4th edition). You will need a minimum of 5 entries: to include one autobiography/biography; one book or article of criticism/commentary on the artist’s work; a collection of the writer’s works or a source that has the visual artist’s or musician’s works; two electronic sources such as websites, CD-Rom programs, films, podcasts; two works of your choice. 3. Each note card must include the four essential elements (see page 180 in Everyday Writer) and contain 3-4 sentences that use direct quotes, paraphrases and/or summaries. Cards will be electronically produced as Powerpoint slides. (Please see guidelines for how to do “electronic” cards.) 4. Preparation Outline: This outline must be in sentence form and word processed. An outline can be made from your Powerpoint slides. (Go to “outline” on the left side of the page. This will help you order your note card slides.) Then see the Outline Template for an outline form that you can essentially “fill in” with your information. 5. Written Draft of Speech: Using your outline, write a 3-5 page draft of your speech which you will deliver, orally, later. In your draft, be sure to write a complete introduction and conclusion. (See directions for introductions and conclusions in this packet.) Please write the draft in complete sentences, using correct paragraph and essay form. At least one writing conference will be required with this draft, so please type and double-space it. Submit your speech draft to turnitin.com after you have had your writing conference and have finalized the speech. 6. The Speech: See directions for delivering the speech in this packet.
