Course Description
This course is all about you and the important decisions you make on a daily basis. It is also
about having the correct information before making those decisions. We will deal with real issues like
nutrition, substance abuse, coping with stress, social media, cardiovascular health, and coping with
cancer. Good health is both mental and physical. Making good decisions starts with knowing the facts,
understanding the consequences, and having the confidence to choose well.
Grading Policy
My goal for this course is to get you to openly discuss issues of life management so that you may
be equipped to make wise decisions as it relates to your health and well-being. I will be taking daily
grades for class participation, writing assignments, as well as periodic evaluations.
The Grading Policy is as follows:
10% - Class Participation
40% - Class Assignments
50% - Test
.
Absent Policy
 Long-range assignments are due on the day assigned even if the student is absent. It is
expected that the student who has had several weeks to work on a project will send that
assignment in by a friend or sibling if the student should be absent.
 Assigned tests that are missed due to excused absence must be made up on the day on
which the student returns to school. If the student has been absent for an extended number
of days, he or she must work out a make-up schedule individually with each teacher.
 Absence for a portion of the school day: If a student misses an announced test or quiz
because of absence for a portion of the school day, but is well enough to be in school for the
remainder of that day or to attend co-curricular activities, the student must make up the
missed test or quiz on that same day. If no study hall time is available for make-up, the
student must take the missed test or quiz after school. This supersedes practices or club
meetings. Failure to make up the missed test or quiz on the assigned day will result in a late
grade penalty (lowered one letter grade), or a Z if the absence is unexcused.
*There will be a final exam/assignment given to the students at the end of the semester if a
student is not exempt per handbook regulations.*

Discipline Policy
Under the Maclay Honor Code all persons are expected to:
1. Demonstrate respect for all people in our school and community as well as for the school
as an institution. This includes, but is not limited to, respecting the religious, ethnic,
social and economic background of all members of the school and community.
Prejudiced conduct because of religion, race, gender, or ethnicity is prohibited.
2. Demonstrate honesty in all matters. Lying, cheating, plagiarism, and stealing are
serious offenses. If a student is uncertain about whether certain conduct constitutes
cheating, the student should ask the teacher for clarification.
All students will be expected to sign an Honor Pledge on every test and quiz as well as on
other assignments as required by the teacher:
"On my Honor, I have neither given nor received unauthorized aid of any kind on this
assignment."
False signing of this Pledge constitutes both lying and cheating.
3. Protect the property of Maclay School and its community. Students are responsible for
preserving the campus. Littering, vandalism, and malicious mischief are prohibited.
Each student will be given a copy of this document. It is to be signed by a parent and returned. The
policy will also be posted on the Maclay web page so that the student can access it to have as a
guideline for the course. Parents; next to your signature I would like for you to give me an email
