Module aims
The course aims to provide the student with an introduction to the role of money,
financial institutions and monetary policy in the economy, thus providing a solid
foundation for further study or employment in the financial services industry. There are
three main components of the course. The course will cover the main aspects of banks
and other financial institutions as well as an investigation of the role of money, central
banking and monetary policy. Also, great attention will be given to understand the
monetary theory.
Module delivery:
The course will be taught through three-hour weekly lectures and a one-hour weakly
tutorial. Lectures will be used for lecturing and tutorials will discuss the answers of
questions sheets.
Assessment:
The course will be assessed by, a mid-term examination and final examination.


A mid-term examination on TOPICS 1 AND 2 will constitute 20% of the final
grade. The exact date of this exam will be announced later during the term.
A final examination on ALL TOPICS will constitute 80% of the final grade.
