DRAWING II Units of Study/Expectations Sandy Blanc 21st Century Learner Expectations A2.1, A3.1, A3.2, A3.2, A8.6 Unit #1: Picasso Still Life Drawing – Cubism (Pacing- 1 week ) Essential Question; How can we create a still life drawing using the style of Cubism? What techniques and materials can we use to help our drawing look like it is in the style of Cubist Pablo Picasso? Concepts/Skills: Vocabulary: View Finder, Still-life, Value, Composition, Cubism, Blocking in, Contour drawing, Collage, Mixed Media. o o Formative Assessments: Three Still Life Drawings, Final Cubism Still Life Drawing Summative Assessments: Final Exam Unit #2: Hand Drawing (Pacing- 2 weeks) Essential Question; How do you begin a still-life drawing if you are “blocking in” positive and negative shape? How can you use basic geometric shape to draw still-life objects? Concepts/Skills: Students learn about drawing a still life, “blocking in” the drawing to ensure a good composition (overlap, run off page, change size and pattern), use positive and negative shape for accurate proportion and to look for the basic geometric shape (cylinder, sphere and cube) for each shape drawn, then draw the details of the objects. Final drawing will consist of one of the still-life drawings, with a creative background (to be colored in colored pencil), the objects will be shaded in pencil only. o o o Vocabulary: Composition, Blocking-in, Positive and Negative Shape, Still-Life. Formative Assessments: Two still life thumbnails, Final Still Life drawing competency. Summative Assessments: Final Exam Unit #3: Three Point Perspective Drawing (Pacing- 2 weeks ) Essential Question; How can we build upon the knowledge of one point perspective drawing, when drawing lettering and a cityscape in two point perspective? Concepts/Skills: Students review one point perspective drawing. They will learn two types of two point perspective; a cityscape and a word. They will combine both types of perspective through a thumbnail and create a final version of the drawing. Vocabulary: Horizon Line, Vanishing Points, Cityscape, Perspective, o Formative Assessments: One point perspective drawing, two two-point perspective practice drawings, one final two-point thumbnail and the final two-point perspective project. o Summative Assessments: Final Exam Unit #4: Self-Portraiture Weaved Image (Pacing- 2 weeks ) Essential Question; How can we draw facial proportions accurately, using guidelines and basic proportions of the face? How can using a proportioned grid drawing (with a 1:2 ratio) to help us draws ourselves accurately? Concepts/Skills: Vocabulary: Grid drawing, Proportion, Value, Guidelines o Formative Assessments: Two generic proportions of the face drawings, facial feature drawings, Final Self-Portrait Grid Drawing competency, facial features using a mirror and charcoal, and final self-portrait from a mirror using charcoal. o Summative Assessments: Final Exam Unit #5: Book Page Drawing (Pacing- 3 days ) Essential Question; What is Zentangle? What are some of the benefits of creating a Zentangle? Concepts/Skills: Students will explore the creative and spontaneous art called Zentangle. They will begin with an image from a magazine and cut it out. They will Zentangle the background and incorporate their image in to the lines that create the zentangle. The work will focus on compositon, balancing the black and white areas of the shapes, pattern and composition. Vocabulary: Zentangle, Pattern, Contrast, Balance o Formative Assessments: The final Zentangle project. o Summative Assessments: Final Exam Unit #6: Cross-Contour Drawing (Pacing-4 days ) Essential Question; How can words be used to create various values and enhance shape, while incorporated into an image? Concepts/Skills: Students will begin with thumbnail sketches of image/images they want to draw. They will practice creating value within the image by repeating words and varying their width and shapes. Vocabulary: Typography, Font, Pattern, Value o Formative Assessments: Thumbnail drawings, final Word Drawing o Summative Assessments: Final Exam Unit #7: Chuck Close Drawing (Pacing-4 days) Essential Question; How can we explore various values of an image and color with only use the stippling technique? Concepts/Skills: Students will practice a stippled value scale. They will choose an image to draw starting with light lines that will be erased after they are stippled. Vocabulary: stippling, value scale, composition o Formative Assessments: stippled value scale, thumbnail and final stippled drawing o Summative Assessments: Final Exam
