Unit- Human Figure

Lesson Title- Portrait Project- Finishing and Responding

Time – 80mins

Grade Level –7 th and 8 th grade

Behavioral Objective- SWBAT Complete a written response to the life and artwork of Frida Kahlo

Standard- (1) Create, Perform, and Participate in the Arts

(2) Respond to analyze works of art

Procedure-

0-5mins 1) Anticipatory Set- Greet students, Have them Sit down. And begin working on their daily sketch assignment “word of the day” -(See general classroom procedures for instruction) Go through attendance.

5-8mins 2) Input- go over some of the famous self-portraits and the symbolism they use

8-15mins 3) Modeling- Give them the Frida Kahlo handout and read to them aloud. Followed by the writing directions

15-18mins 4) Understanding-Ask them if they need me to go over anything before writing. Answer any questions

18-25mins 5) Modeling- Show them how to organize information before writing.

Make sure you talk about introduction, body, and conclusion.

25-75-mins 6) Practice- Have them silently write essay response, and proof read as they come in and point out areas that may need work.

75- 80mins 7) Clean-up- Clear tables and put away supplies. Everything in folders.

Vocabulary- Self-Portrait- A depiction of the artist that is made by the artist.

Materials- Paper, Pencil, Handout, 6+1 rubric
