This includes all classwork, tests, quizzes, projects, etc. A zero will be earned for all missed work. This rule applies to unexcused tardies as well as unexcused early parent pick up. Written note is mandatory for an excused absence. No emails. Refer to the Student Code of Conduct book for details regarding attendance and tardies. Changing a child’s way home MUST be done by 2:00PM in writing (No emails or phone calls will be accepted). Students will only be released to names listed on the emergency contact card. If an emergency occurs, parent may fax authorization with a copy of their driver’s license. Parents must inform the elementary school of an extended absence in writing. Family vacations, extended weekends, etc. are considered as an unexcused absences. If there is an emergency or medical absence, documentation is required upon the students return. Administration will determine unexcused and excused status of absence. • • • • • • • Important Information Food Letter: You will see one Food Letter for the year in the First Day Packet. If any food concerns arise throughout the year, please contact the front office and homeroom teacher. Lunch $2.20. (No Fast Food is to be brought in). Parents are not permitted to eat breakfast/lunch in the cafeteria with their child(ren). 4th grade is dismissed at 3:05. Please keep this in mind when getting in the car line. Check planners daily for homework assignments and/or discipline movements. Check Jupiter Grades regularly for current grades, notes from teachers, messages from the school, and other pertinent information. Please visit the Pines Charter website, pinescharter.net, for information about our school system, campus, and all of the various resources available. Parents of car riders: Please write your child’s name/grade on the car rider label (the label can be found in the First Day Packet). Place this strip on your dashboard before going through the car line in the afternoon. Service Hours (Volunteer) • 30 hours required per family. • The First Mates of each class will contact you in regards to volunteer opportunities. • A driver’s license is required when volunteering. • Always sign in at the front office prior to coming to the classroom. You must wear the visitor badge provided to you when you sign in. • When volunteering on campus, siblings, are not allowed. • A bulk of donations to the class is 30 minutes volunteer time with a maximum of donations being 10 hours (Must be wish list items). • Please join the PTA today…it is great way to help our children. PTA membership is $10 per family. 3/24/2016 5 Discipline Plan The following procedures will be implemented for misbehavior. 1. Warning 2. Administrative referral • • • • • • • • • Discipline Plan Continued Be advised that these consequences are for each quarter Movements on the discipline plan are connected with report card grades. 0-1 movements on the discipline plan will result in an “E” (excellent) on the report card. 2 - 3 movements on the discipline plan will result in an “S” (satisfactory) on the report card. 4 movements will result in an “N” (needs improvement) on the report card. 5 or more movements will result in a “U” (unsatisfactory) on the report card. Receiving an “N” or “U” on the report card eliminates a student from being recognized on the Honor Roll. Movements on the discipline plan will be documented in the agenda. The DP Policy form can be found in the first day packet. Please review this policy with your child and sign the form acknowledging acceptance and understanding. Assignments Policy • Student information/grades will be accessible through Jupitergrades. Please make sure all information is current by Wednesday, August 20th. • All assignments are due on the date they are given unless otherwise stated. This does not pertain to excused absences. For each day the student is out, they will have two days to turn in the missed assignment. It is the responsibility of the student to receive and turn in any work he/she missed while absent. • When assignments are turned in with no name, students may receive an N or U on the Behavior/Study Skills section of the report card. • All students will have two homework passes for every quarter (this can be found in the student agenda). Assignment Policy Continued • A zero will be earned for any assignment not turned in, whether it is homework or classwork. • Homework and classwork will affect the Study Skills sections of the student report card. More than 4 missing HW/classwork assignments will remove a child from Honor Roll for the quarter. • Please note that per school policy, Extra Credit is not given. • The Assignment Policy is in the First Day Packet. Please review this policy with your child and sign the form acknowledging acceptance and understanding. Students must have an AR book in their backpack every day for reading. Computer Program: Successmaker (Headphones and or Earbuds are needed for Successmaker). Reading Materials: ½ inch binder (this stays in the desk), homework folder, folder for social studies, highlighters, pencils with erasers, and pen for checking work (All materials are listed on the 4th grade Supply List). Social Studies: Social Studies Weekly and Time for Kids – Focus on the history of Florida and current events Accelerated Reader Policy • Accelerated Reader will be addressed on the quarterly report card under Selects Appropriate Materials for Learning Tasks. • • • • 90 70 60 59 • An N or a U on the report card will result in your child not being eligible for the Principal’s or Gold Honor Roll. • As a reminder, students should be reading daily, completing their daily reading log, and taking AR tests regularly. • Please sign acknowledging acceptance and understanding of the 4th Grade AR Policy. Math Series: Go Math. The math textbook is consumable. Kids have online access to the Go Math series (textbook, workbook, and other activities) through Think Central. Students will have the Big Book and Practice Book pages for each chapter in their Math binder. School wide Math program: Acaletics Computer Based Math Programs: ThinkCentral and Successmaker Please check ThinkCentral regularly for test reviews, concept reviews, and additional practice. Math Materials: ½ inch binder, dividers, dry erase marker, old sock/washcloth, folder, pen for checking work, and pencils with erasers (All supplies were included on the 4th grade Supply List). St. Augustine • St. Augustine will be Thursday, December 11th – Friday, December 12th • The cost for the trip is anywhere from $275-$315. This is just a range and the price may be less or more. • On December 11th, we leave school at 6AM (5:40AM arrival at PPCES). • On December 12th, we return to PPCES at 10:45PM. • The first deposit will be due on or before Thursday, September 18th. The $75 deposit is non-refundable. • A parent meeting for all students attending the trip will be scheduled at a later date. • • • • St. Augustine Continued The Field Trip Form is included in the First Day Folder. Please note the following is included in the trip: transportation on a charter bus, food (lunch and dinner on Thursday and breakfast, lunch, and dinner on Friday), hotel stay, a DVD of the trip, admission to all attractions, and a St. Augustine t-shirt. You will receive emails in regards to donations needed for the trip. We take plenty of snacks and water. Chaperone Information: Only City of Pembroke Pines Employees are able to Chaperone this trip. If you are a City of Pembroke Pines Employee and want to Chaperone, please email Ms. Surowitz letting her know. Miscellaneous Information • • • • • • • • Assessments and classwork assignments that are used yearly will not be sent home as per school policy. 2 hours of volunteer time will be given for attending Open House (please make sure you signed in outside of the cafeteria) Rainy days – Just a suggestion…you may want to keep a small poncho in your child’s backpack. Birthday parties will be celebrated in K only. Party invitations may only be passed out if everyone in the class is included. Lockdown Snacks: Please see your child’s teacher if you are interested in donating. All snacks need to be peanut free. Phone calls will not be transferred into the classroom during the school day. The best way to contact the teachers is via email. Parents may not walk students to the class. Conferences/Interims/Closing • • • • • • • Conferences will be scheduled with your child’s homeroom teacher. Concerns with a specific subject area should be emailed to the subject area teacher. Interims will be sent home via Jupitergrades. Upon receipt, we ask that you print, sign, and return the interim report with your child. Interims will be sent by Ms. Surowitz. Please return first day folders with all completed forms on Monday. Report to your child’s classroom in the E building to pick up the 1st day packet which is on your child’s desk. Please make sure to sign-up for volunteer opportunities and visit the class wish list. If your child will be a car rider, please pick up a card and label it with your child’s name and grade level and place on your dashboard prior to pick-up on Monday.
