Insurance Strategic Partnership (ISP) is a system responsible for the receipt of commissions and
payment of compensation to Merrill Lynch agents for the sale of Insurance Products.
ISP processes initial sales of life insurance contracts and annuity policies, as well as subsequent
premiums (additional payments) and renewals. The system processes both proprietary (Merrill Lynch) and no
proprietary (other carriers) life and annuity products.
Description
ISP calculates commissions payable to Merrill Lynch Insurance Group (MLIG) from proprietary and
non-proprietary carriers for the sale of their annuity and life products, and tracks that the payment
has been received. The system also calculates compensation payable to Financial Advisors (FA’s) and
Insurance Specialists (IS’s), in the form of production credits (PC’s), as a result of new sales, renewals,
and subsequent premiums for proprietary and non-proprietary, annuity and life products.
The system receives policy valuation data from other carriers via the National Securities Clearing
Corporation (NSCC) for non-proprietary products and maintains a database of company and policy
data. It also receives policy valuation data from ML proprietary carriers directly. The policy valuation
data is used to calculate Trails Compensation as well as providing non-proprietary policy values for
customer statements. The system provides online screens for the MLIG Commissions client to view
and make adjustments to policy data, and provides daily, weekly, monthly, annual, and ad hoc
reports.
