PASTOR’S CORNER
“For it is by grace you have been saved through faithand this not from yourselves, It is a gift of God- not by
works, so that no one can boast. For we are God’s
workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good
works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.”
Ephesians 2:8-10.
There is nothing that feels as good as doing what you
were born to do, to live out one’s destiny in Christ. I
believe that much of our time is not spent doing what
we were made to do. Sadly, much of life is wasted.
Those moments in life when we are fulfilling our
destiny are moments when we are fully alive. One of
the early Church fathers, St. Irenaeus, said, “The glory
of God is Man fully alive.”
I agree. God made his creation to thrive, not just
survive. As people, I believe we are to be effective,
fruitful and productive. When we do what we are
gifted and created for, it feels good and it makes the
world a better place.
So how do we hook in to that elusive sweet spot in
life? I believe it is only through Christ that we can.
First of all we must receive Christ and be born of the
Spirit. To be born of the Spirit is the life God intended
for us. Jesus said in John 10:10, “The thief (Satan)
comes to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that
they may have life, and have it to the full.”
We need to stay close to Jesus to fulfill the life we
were made for. The apostle Paul said in Galatians 5:26,
“Since we live by the Spirit, let us keep in step with the
Spirit.”
I want to be listening to the voice of Jesus, the Good
Shepherd. As the Holy Spirit speaks, we need to listen
and obey. I have tasted the fruit of obedience and I
want more! That is my prayer for our church as well,
that we will be fulfilling God’s destiny for us.

A YOUTH MOMENT
As I am writing this newsletter, we have just finished
another amazing year of Mighty OAKS and are
looking forward to the day of Pentecost, the day when
the promised Holy Spirit came to help and guide us!
Coincidently, our last day of Mighty OAKS was
focusing on ways that the Holy Spirit helps us today.
One of the ways the Holy Spirit can help us is by
giving us boldness. Boldness to share the gospel,
boldness to stand for others, boldness to do what is
right, boldness to lead the way. We’ve been given a
charge by God to be light in the darkness and to make
disciples of all nations. This can only happen when we
have the power of God living in us, giving us boldness
to do as He’s commanded! I pray that our students
have great boldness as they live and move in their
world and I ask you to join me in that prayer!
SUMMER YOUTH GROUP: Summer youth group
is open to all students ENTERING 7th grade through
our seniors who have graduated. We will meet on the
2nd Wednesday of each month at Jim & Cindy
Morhland’s home from 7 – 10 p.m. For those who need
a ride or who do not know where Jim & Cindy live,
you can meet at the church – we will be leaving at 6:45
p.m. Please bring a modest swimsuit or cover-up,
towel, a snack to share and warm clothes to wear as the
evening progresses. Friends are always welcome!
Dates for Summer Youth Group Are: June 10th, July
8th, and August 12th.
CHURCH-WIDE GARAGE SALE: We will once
again be having a church-wide garage sale on June
11th-13th. Gently used donations can be brought to
church beginning June 7th and left in the conjoined
Sunday School rooms in the basement. PLEASE do not
bring electronics, appliances, VHS or Cassette Tapes.
As a reminder, donations that do not sell will be
donated to local charities (i.e. they will NOT be
returned to the original owner). All proceeds will
benefit the camp scholarship program. Thank you!
LAKE BEAUTY CAMPS: Speaking of camp, the
Youth season kicks off for us with Super High Camp
(Completed 8th-9th grade) on June 14th – 19th and then
Junior High Camp (Completed 6th-8th Grade) June 21st
– 26th. If you have a student who would like to attend
camp but has not yet registered, please do so as soon as
possible as we need to make sure we have adequate
transportation for all campers. Thank you!
Looking Ahead:
CHIC: Our CHIC students will be leaving for the
University of Tennessee on Saturday, July 11th. I am
so excited to see what God is going to do in our young
people’s lives during that week! We are still looking
for a couple of “adoption families” to pair our youth
with so if you are interested but cannot afford the
“Adoption Fee” please let me know as soon as possible
so I can pair you up with a student!
MUUUCE – It’s that time of year again! The Most
Ultimate Unbelievable Urban Camping Experience
(a.k.a. MUUUCE) will once again be held at
Crossroads Church in Woodbury MN on August 6th –
8th. This event is open to students entering 6th-9th grade
and is one your student will NOT want to miss! This
year’s theme is: “Amplify! Make His voice heard!”
and costs just $109 if registered before July 1st! Cost
covers food, sleeping arrangements, and admittance
into Valley Fair, Pinz Bowling Alley, and a TON of
other awesome experiences! If your student is
interested, please get the completed registration form
and check (made out to UCC with “MUUUCE” in the
memo line) to me NO LATER than June 28th.
Registration forms are in the foyer by “Sign Up
Central”.
VBS: Mark your calendars for August 16th – 20th as
United Covenant church is hosting this year’s
Community VBS!! This year’s theme is: SonSpark
Labs – Discovering God’s plan4U!” and I am so
excited for all that is in store! Science experiments,
awesome music, great games and crafts and (most
importantly!!) sound Biblical teaching that God’s great
plan for us was Jesus! We are going to need a lot of
volunteers, materials, and other resources, but we
believe it is going to be completely worth it as kids are
awakened and excited to learn about what God has in
store for them! Please be in prayer for the planning of
VBS and your involvement in it! There are donation
and volunteer sign ups in the foyer at “Sign Up
Central” Community VBS: It’s going to be a BLAST!!

The bible says in Acts 2 that when the Holy Spirit first
arrived, He came in the form of a powerful wind and
tongues of fire on each disciple. As we closed for our
last day of Mighty OAKS, I offered the kids a
challenge that I want to extend to you all as well. This
summer, when you’re outside enjoying the weather and
a breeze flows against your face, I want you to
remember the power that the Holy Spirit came (and
comes!) in. And as you sit around a campfire and
watch the flames and feel the heat, remember that the
Holy Spirit still descends and remains with every
disciple of Jesus Christ. You are filled with the
promise Holy Spirit – the power of God. So let us live
BOLDLY and proclaim the good news to all nations!

LITTLE LAMBS
Gearing up for summer…tilling the garden
for planting, planning field trips to several
parks, library visits and of course Water Fun
Day’s!!! Lots of fun and excitement planned
for the children this summer.
The staff and children wait all year for these
summer days! We will start planning our float
for the Clear Lake Heritage Days Parade and
how we can come along side our church
family as they host Community VBS.
We are asking for prayer for one of our Little
Lambs…Maddie, 19 months old, will have
surgery the first of June to repair her hip
joint. She will be in a body cast until
September and then return to Little Lambs.
Pray for healing for Maddie, for her twin
sister Abby as she continues at Little Lambs
without her sister and for Maddie’s family as
they juggle jobs and schedules to take care
of her. Also pray for the staff at Little
Lambs as they care for Maddie when she
returns to Little Lambs.

share Jesus Christ to our children. Yet, at the
heart of my missional calling as a dad is just the
simple premise of spending time with my children.
Where I can then say to them, "Follow me, as I
follow Christ." As dads, we don't need to be
perfect. We just need to relentlessly pursue the
only Man that was.

MISSION MOMENT BY LORI REED
Because June is the month in which we honor
fathers, MISSIONAL DADS is the Mission Ministry
Team’s focus for June. This an excerpt from a
devotional written by JT Waresak:
What does it mean to be a missional dad?
Charles H. Spurgeon, a prolific pastor of old,
made the statement, "Every Christian is either a
missionary or an impostor." Some 2000 years
before Spurgeon made this statement, Christ
made a similar one when He told His disciples,
"...and you shall be witnesses to Me in Jerusalem,
and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of
the earth" (Acts 1:9). As Christian fathers, our
number one mission field is found within the
relationships of our home. It starts here in our own
Jerusalem, and by God's Grace goes out from
there. While it is quite easy for a man to become a
father to a child, it is another thing for a man to be
a father to that child. Fatherhood is not defined by
a single biological act. Being a father to a child is
a life-long missional pursuit.
True fatherhood carries with it the reality that a life
is now physically, emotionally and spiritually
linked to it. As a man, fatherhood is one of life's
toughest jobs. At the same time, it is one of life's
most rewarding. I've never met an elderly man
that would say he loved his kids too much, or that
he poured too much of God's Word into their lives.
To be missional dads is to see the relationships
within our homes as our greatest mission field.
While our role as a father will change over time,
the goal will always remain the same: To live and
