What is expected of Law Clinic Members?
We ask that our members remain fully committed to the work of the Law Clinic, whether it is through
engaging in StreetLaw, advice giving, or other work undertaken by the Law Clinic. We provide a wide
range of resources and support to allow members to carry out their work and our members are
expected to take advantage of these.
PARTICIPATION
Members are required to participate fully in all cases and StreetLaw presentations allocated to them by
the Law Clinic Executive. This participation involves research and preparation as well as the delivery of
the advice and presentations. All members will work in teams of two or three for advice giving, and
larger groups for the presentations. Groups will be supervised by the Advice Giving and StreetLaw
Coordinators.
Members must accept that they will engage in all tasks allocated to them, except in very limited
circumstances. These do not include excess University work or sports commitments, as we envisage
all our members should be able to balance their other commitments with their Law Clinic work.
MEMBERSHIP PERIOD
All members are required to sign up for the rest of their law degree / masters course. Any member
spending a period of their course abroad will be excused for that period.
DISCIPLINARY PROCEDURE
All members declare, on application to the Law Clinic, an understanding of the Clinic rules. This
includes an understanding of the disciplinary code. Members who fail to meet their obligations may be
subject to disciplinary actions that may lead to expulsion from the Law Clinic. In considering
disciplinary action the member’s case will always be heard.
Members breach their Law Clinic obligations in particular in the following circumstances, without valid
reason or reasons:

Failure to attend training/ meetings/ preparation sessions

Refusal to engage in casework or presentation work allocated

Failure to complete, or unacceptable completion of, casework or presentation work undertaken

Failure to adhere to Law Clinic policies, procedure and rules
.
Law Clinic members have consistently demonstrated a professional and committed approach to their
work. We are naturally extremely reluctant to discipline our members who are giving up their own time
to help others.
