TEKS/Objectives: 130.88. Graphic Design and Illustration (c) Knowledge and skills. (2) The student understands professional communications strategies. The student is expected to: (E) apply active listening skills; (10) The student applies technical skills for efficiency. The student is expected to employ planning and time-management skills to complete work tasks. (11) The student develops an increasing understanding of graphic design and illustration. The student is expected to: (C) interpret, evaluate, and justify design decisions; (E) analyze and apply art elements and principles;(F) employ a creative design process to create original two- or three-dimensional projects by: (i) creating designs for defined applications; (ii) applying elements of design; (iii) applying design principles and typography; (v) demonstrating anatomical figure drawing; (vi) demonstrating drawing in one-point, two-point, and multi-point perspective; (vii) creating a project by applying color; and (viii) applying printing concepts; Software: Adobe Illustrator (Painting and Drawing software – Vector based) Materials Required: color printer, scanner, piece of unlined paper, pencil, black pen Prerequisite Skills: How to use a scanner, live trace and live paint tools Time Required: 2 – 3 days (55 minute class periods) Procedure: The students will draw or doodle a picture on a piece of unlined paper. When drawing the student needs to use complete shapes and do not use shading techniques. When the students are finished with their doodles, they will trace their drawing with a black pen and then scan it. The students will open their scanned drawing in Adobe Illustrator and use Live Trace and Live Paint to complete their doodles. Closure: None Evaluation: Major grade Differentiation Strategies: You can modify this project by making it a listening exercise as well. Before the students begin drawing, you can tell a story with descriptive visual clues about an object or noun and then have the students draw about what they heard.
