Layered Project The Holocaust and Night By Elie Wiesel C Layer: 80 points, you must complete at least 50 points. Choose at least two: 1c. Design a book review (10 points) Be sure to include the title, author, and summary. Include a picture or drawing on the front of the note card that represents Night. Should be typed, Times New Roman 12pt, single spaced, and mounted on a note card (available from teacher). 2c. Write a letter (15 points) Write a letter to Elie Wiesel telling him what you thought about the book. Be sure to include all of your impressions. It should be typed, Times New Roman 12pt, minimum of one page double spaced. 3c. Make a crossword puzzle (10 points) Make a crossword puzzle that includes fifteen vocabulary words and definitions from the Holocaust unit and Night. 4c. Create a map (10 points) Using maps.google.com, create an interactive map of different historical buildings, places, streets etc. Include at least ten different spots. You may pick any points from the Holocaust unit. 5c. Create a poster (10 points) Hitler used a lot of propaganda during the Holocaust. Create a poster trying to show people that the Holocaust is good and that the world will be better in the end. You may want to use glogster.com or other online poster sites. Choose at least one: 6c. Interview Elie Wiesel (10 points) Make a mock interview with Elie Wiesel. Create at least ten questions that you would ask him with answers you may expect him to have. Ask about anything you are wondering! 7c. Write a newspaper story (15 points) Pick an event that occurred during the Holocaust. It can be out of Night or any other event that we have discussed. Write a newspaper article that would have came out to the civilians about this event. It must be 200 words. Times New Roman 12pt, double spaced. B Layer: 85 points, you must complete at least 50 points. Choose at least one: 1b. Design a diagram of Auschwitz (15 pts) Design a 3D diagram including different aspects of Auschwitz and any buildings or features that Elie Wiesel mentioned in Night (entrance, dorms, train). 2b. Do an author study (15 points) Complete an online author study. Find out as much as you can about Elie Wiesel. Create a collage of different images that would represent Wiesel’s life. You may want to use vuvox.com. 3b. Watch Elie Wiesel’s interview with Oprah at Auschwitz (15 points) Copies of the interview are available from the teacher also it is on YouTube.com. Once you have watched the interview, write down five things you learned, three things you thought were interesting, and why you think that the interview would be the last time Wiesel would visit Auschwitz. Would you like to visit Auschwitz some day? Choose at least one: 4b. Write a diary (20 points) Write a diary from the point of view of any person we have studied in the Holocaust unit. Be sure to include who you are and you must have at least five journal entries that are half a page in length. Times New Roman 12pt, double spaced. 5b. Write a poem (20 points) Write a poem about any part of the Holocaust that you choose. Make sure that you include three literary elements (repetition, alliteration, simile etc.) and three vocabulary words. You have to have at least 20 lines. A Layer: 150 points, you must complete at least 75 points. Choose one: 1a. Develop a timeline (50 points) Develop a timeline of the Holocaust. You must include twenty dates of events with pictures. You can do this however you would like, you may use sites such as ourstory.com or xtimeline.com. 2a. Create a voicethread (50 points) Using voicethread.com, create a voice thread that has at least seven slides with appropriate pictures. The first slide should include a spoken summary of the title, author, and any awards that Night has won. The picture should be of the book cover. Slide two should be an appropriate picture and include a spoken summary of the story, characters’ names, setting, and themes of Night. Slides three through six should be you speaking in first person from the perspective of one of the characters in the book. Be sure to be dramatic and engaging so the listener feels your emotion. Slide seven should be an evaluation and recommendation of the book. Choose 1: 3a. Develop a game (25 points) Create a game that has the Holocaust as its theme. It can be any game you would like. Be sure to include all the pieces that are needed in order to successfully play it! 4a. Demonstrate what it would have been like to be Jewish during the Holocaust (25 points) This can be done as a scrapbook, an informational essay, a collage, or any way you can think of. Show what life would have been like for an eighth grader going through the Holocaust. You could use mixbook.com or any other online source.
