Online Resources
Your homework for each section will be to watch the video prior to class. In class, we will clarify material
as needed and work on practice problems. This will be good for you if you are absent. It will also allow us to
do more hands-on things and some projects. Lectures can be found on Miss Yost’s classroom website.
Additional online help can be found at wolframalpha.com and khanacademy.org.
Typical Unit
You’ll be given all materials for the whole chapter at the beginning. These will include notes, skill checks,
and homework assignments for each lesson, vocabulary for the unit, and project instructions (if that’s
happening for that particular unit). We’ll have about three days of lessons, a quiz review/catch up day, a
quiz day, about three more days of lessons, a test review day, and a test day for each chapter.
July 30, 2014
Typical Day
Each day we will look at the objective for the day, answer questions regarding the notes for the lesson,
discuss the skill check for that lesson, and do the part of your homework marked as Whole Class Work. The
rest of the time will be divided between the On Your Own portion of the homework and project work time.
This is a great time to ask for help if you need it or catch up on things you missed.
Grading Scale
Homework = 15% (skill checks collected daily and can be corrected, practice problems collected before
each assessment, and occasional projects)
Quizzes = 20% (assessment in the middle of each chapter, can be corrected for half credit)
Tests = 50% (assessment at the end of each chapter, cannot be corrected)
Final Exam = 15%
Other Stuff That Needs Addressed
Food and drink – I don’t care until you spill something. When you spill something, you clean it up and then
you don’t bring food and drink anymore.
Cellphones – I shouldn’t see them while we’re working together. During individual work time, you may use
them to listen to music. They should not distract you from your work.
Seats – Seats are assigned to you for a reason. You should not move unless you ask first.
Bathroom visits – Try not to ask while we’re working together. Otherwise, I have no problem signing your
agenda. You’ll also sign the back board with your name, time, and destination. You’ll erase it when you
come back. Any time you are out of the room, you will need to conclude your business and make it back in
a timely fashion.
How to study – Homework and reviews are the best way to do that. Complete them to the best of your
ability on your own, and then check your work with the answers posted on the board. ASK FOR HELP!
SRT – It is highly encouraged that you visit me during SRT. When I give you a pass, you’ll sign the front
board with your pass number. I have a limited number of SRT spots, so ask early. Do not show up at SRT
without a pass. That will not work.
I make every effort to be laid back and helpful. Work with me on that, and we’ll have
a great year!
