Whole Group Lesson (Adapted from the Primary Kit)
Relevance
(Instructional
Procedures):
The teacher will have
students turn and talk
with one another about
what they think women
did during the American
Revolution. Students
will then be completing
a KWL chart about
women’s roles in the
American Revolution.
Students will begin by
filling out the K and W
sections of their chart.
As students read and
learn more about
women’s roles they will
begin to fill out their L
section of their chart.
Students will underline
all important
information about
women they find within
the article.
The teacher will start
off by having
students share all
that they know
about Native
Americans and
African Americans.
Students will then be
told that today they
will be learning
about the roles of
Native Americans in
comparison to that
of African Americans.
Students will first
write out what they
know about African
Americans in their
Venn diagrams. As
we go through the
lesson students will
be completing what
they know about
Native Americans
and the similarities
between the two
groups.
Literacy Materials (Must come from the Primary Kit or S3 Supplementary Materials)
Video Extensions (Must come from the S3 Supplementary Materials Only)
Students will be
told that today
they will be
comparing the
Patriots to the
Loyalist. Students
will be placed in
pairs of two where
they will be cutting
and pasting figures
onto construction
paper to illustrate
the differences
between the two
sides. Students will
be instructed to
fold their paper
into 2 sides. They
will cut and paste
the figures onto
the appropriate
side to show which
side each fought
for. Students will
also fill-in different
keywords from
their cutouts.
