Learning Objective(s): Students will learn about the roles of Women during the American Revolution Students will complete a Venn Diagram to compare the roles of African Americans to the roles of Native Americans in the American Revolution Evaluation of Venn Diagrams. Students will create a foldable to compare the Patriots to the Loyalist Checking for Understanding Evaluation of student KWL charts. Whole Group Lesson (Adapted from the Primary Kit) Relevance (Instructional Procedures): The teacher will have students turn and talk with one another about what they think women did during the American Revolution. Students will then be completing a KWL chart about women’s roles in the American Revolution. Students will begin by filling out the K and W sections of their chart. As students read and learn more about women’s roles they will begin to fill out their L section of their chart. Students will underline all important information about women they find within the article. The teacher will start off by having students share all that they know about Native Americans and African Americans. Students will then be told that today they will be learning about the roles of Native Americans in comparison to that of African Americans. Students will first write out what they know about African Americans in their Venn diagrams. As we go through the lesson students will be completing what they know about Native Americans and the similarities between the two groups. Literacy Materials (Must come from the Primary Kit or S3 Supplementary Materials) Video Extensions (Must come from the S3 Supplementary Materials Only) Students will be told that today they will be comparing the Patriots to the Loyalist. Students will be placed in pairs of two where they will be cutting and pasting figures onto construction paper to illustrate the differences between the two sides. Students will be instructed to fold their paper into 2 sides. They will cut and paste the figures onto the appropriate side to show which side each fought for. Students will also fill-in different keywords from their cutouts. Student will play “the hot seat” game where one student will have to answer questions from the class about the American Revolution. Student will share their finished product at the end of class.
