How Many Pre-AP Classes To Take? • • • • Individual decision Consider extra-curricular commitments Impacts class rank Seek balance while challenging yourself Benefits of Taking Pre-AP Courses • Great preparation for AP/DC classes • Rigorous courses in high school better prepares students for college courses • Grades are weighted 1.15 (1.29 for AP!) • Colleges look for rigorous coursework RANK IN CLASS • Required graduation courses, up to a maximum of 26 credits, taken in grades 9 to 12 through the end of the 7th semester will be used to calculate class rank. • Elective courses that produce the highest weighted grade will be used to calculate rank. • Class rank will be based upon a weighted grade average Weighted Grade Averages • WGPA are determined by multiplying each semester grade of a ranked course by a rank factor and computing an average. Course Level • AP, GT/AP, and Dual Credit AP – 1.29 • Pre AP, Honors, Dual Credit non-AP – 1.15 • Regular -1.0 • The WGA determines rank in class.
