Selena the Strong Sorceress By: Sarah Pardington Selena the sorceress is beyond compare With her small round face and long black hair Her eyes are nothing short of a blue that shone mysterious and cold Skin so fair it was worth more than gold She is slim, delicate, and slender she surely does astound Her face is gorgeous with no flaws found Dresses and dark colors is what she prefers to wear With the hood of green that doesn’t have a single tear I admit, she has a soft spot for any jewel She collected gems as payment, she is no fool If you see her surely you’d notice Her posture is perfect that is a bonus She sits on her horse elegant, erect, and well-met She is a true bred lady, you can bet As for sorceresses, they were hired by kings and queens To fight off beasts, goblins, and fiends And Selena, well, she was the greatest of them all Honest and honorable, she answers every call You may find her loyalty can be quite shaken She is unpredictable, there was no mistaking She is wise beyond her years considering she is just twenty-two Yet she possesses selflessness and gentility, her kindness fresh as dew She conceals her face in her mysterious ways Powerful as she was, her enemies will search for her for days The Solemn, Silent Star is the nickname she received The strongest and the bravest, that is fiercely believed Selena rode on her steed for fear never found her I guess But this special mission could leave her horse rider less But she had faith in her herself I presume She agreed to face the dreaded viper, this could mean her doom Hired by the king and Queen themselves, they asked for a favor Their kingdom poor, they needed help from a rich neighbor That neighboring kingdom was plagued by a giant snake They wouldn’t trade until the snake’s life, Selena take The King and Queen begged and said, “Name your price,” She said, “I want to settle down that would be nice,” “Done,” they agreed but didn’t stop there Selena smiled and continued to stare And so the King and Queen offered gold and a knight when the deed was done Selena grinned and proclaimed, “Okay, let’s have some fun,” So she rode for two weeks’ time To find that wicked serpent with a soul of slime Until she found him, coiling with anger She snickered and dismounted, he couldn’t scare her He was so huge in his mouth she could stand Selena knew the risks but believed fate would lend a hand When he spotted her he screeched loud and clear Selena clutched her ears and said, “My reputation precedes me I hear,” He lunged and she dodged, hoping to wear him out before her magic was released The viper, arrogant didn’t suspect her trick but teased During this battle, Selena slipped in the sand The snake wasted no time in gaining the upper hand He circled himself around her twisting and turning Her breath he suffocated, her lungs burning She clutched his scales and uttered a hymn And a blast exploded, flinging the beast of sin She was free at last and he was fuming An advantage she had, his ears were booming They locked in a fight, it seemed to take hours Yet no one doubted the sorceress’s powers And when his retorts and energy hit their peak Selena harnesses fire so fierce he couldn’t speak She closed her eyes as she ended his life Scared villagers emerged at the sound of the strife Selena stood proud and tall And spent the day telling her feat to all When she returned to her homeland bearing the good news The King and Queen were overjoyed and paid their dues She was happy to get gold and the new house But she got what she desired, which was a knight for a spouse
