Justine Hebert
Somerville High School
Course Description:
This course exposes students to a formal, deductive system of mathematics, while
integrating the algebraic properties of real numbers. Instructional time will focus
on five critical areas:
[1] Establish criteria for congruence of triangles based on rigid motions
[2] Establish criteria for similarity of triangles based on dilations and
proportional reasoning
[3] Informally develop explanations of circumference, area, and volume
formulas
[4] Apply the Pythagorean Theorem to the coordinate plane
[5] Prove basic geometric theorems
The course is fully aligned with the Common Core and includes the Standards for
Mathematical Practice. Students will be exposed to a variety of standardized testtaking skills and strategies to prepare for the MCAS and other types of
standardized tests. Performance assessments are regularly taken to ensure that
students complete the course with the appropriate knowledge of concepts and
skills that will help prepare them for college and future careers.
