Early Childhood Education Career, Technical and Agricultural Education Differentiated Instructional Resource Lesson Plan Course: Early Childhood Education Unit: Title Unit 2: FCCLA Industry Big Ideas: Getting involved in student organizations can make a significant difference in a student’s overall experience in high school. Students can practice working together as a team toward a common goal. FCCLA is a nonprofit national career and technical student organization that focuses on family and consumer science education. The group promotes character development, creative and critical thinking, interpersonal communication, practical knowledge, and career preparation. All of these elements are important for the early childhood education field. This unit strives to make students aware of organizations like FCCLA and get them out in their community to work on these skills and prepare them for their future. Why? 2.2- As the students learned last lesson, there are a variety of ways to get involved in FCCLA. “Share our Strength” is one organization under FCCLA that fights child hunger. Teacher can choose whether it is appropriate for students to use their notes during the FCCLA overview quiz. The Web Quest is an individual activity meaning students can proceed at their own pace and pursue links that interest them. Activity 2.2 Students can follow guided notes when watching YouTube video that way they are able to pay attention while keeping up with the pace of note-taking. Teacher can organize groups mixing high achieving students with low achieving students to help and teach each other. Rough Draft gives guided questions for students to answer and then use as an outline that way they can transition easily into the proposal. Early Childhood Education 2.1 Major Learning Experiences and Materials Needed: “FCCLA” PowerPoint, internet access, Web Quest Instructions Accompanying Lesson Process: Teacher will present FCCLA PowerPoint while student follow Resources: (What will the teacher and students be doing? With what? Be sure to include learning experiences and assignments that are clearly differentiated.) along with FCCLA notes to give a broad overview on what FCCLA is and what it has to offer for students involved. Student will review by completing the FCCLA quiz. Students will travel throughout the FCCLA website and discover great programs that will help them reveal more about themselves and those around them using instructions from “Step 1: Web Quest”. Intervention: Curriculum Connections: 2.2 Materials Needed: “Power of One” and “STAR event” PowerPoints, Planning Process worksheet and instructions, Power of One Project instructions and unit recognition, “Share our Strength” YouTube video Lesson Process: STAR Events and Power of One are components of FCCLA. Teacher will present a PowerPoint on the two topics and explain how one can get involved. Have students get into groups of 2-4. Each group will start brainstorming ideas for a Power of One project. Each group will provide a rough outline of their plans on the FCCLA Planning Process Worksheet. Students can refer to the instructions for more details. Have students start with the rough draft template and then progress towards a proposal to be submitted to the teacher. Intervention: Curriculum Connections: Closure (Review key points, preview next lesson) Activity 2.1- Students should report things that they found off of the website that interested them. Explain to students that this information will come in handy with the next lesson’s Power of One project. Activity 2.2- Once project idea is approved by the teacher, each group will work on converting it to a Power of One Project. Which unit does it fall under?
