r.101.4 – Experiencing A Transformed Life
Jesus died for your sin, but His works in your life doesn’t end there. He rose again and lives! He wants you to walk with Him
through the rest of your life, leaving the place where you first responded to him, journeying into the abundant life His
resurrection guarantees. This happens one step at a time as He leads and as you follow.
How Will Jesus Lead You?
By Means Of His Spirit That Resides Within You
 John 14:25 “All this I have spoken while still with you. 26 But the Counselor, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will
send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you.
 1 Corinthians 6:19 Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have
received from God?
As You Pray
 Jeremiah 33:3 ‘Call to me and I will answer you and tell you great and unsearchable things you do not know.’
As You Read The Bible
 Psalm 119:103 How sweet are your words to my taste, sweeter than honey to my mouth! 104 I gain understanding
from your precepts; therefore I hate every wrong path. 105 Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light for my path.
As You Participate In The Family Of God
 2 Timothy 4:2 Preach the Word; be prepared in season and out of season; correct, rebuke and encourage—with
great patience and careful instruction.
 Hebrews 10:24 And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds. 25 Let us not
give up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but let us encourage one another—and all the more as
you see the Day approaching.
Where Is Jesus Leading – Your Transformation
There are many steps in the journey of following Jesus throughout the lifetime of a believer. Some of these steps will be
tasks, others will be opportunities and others learning experiences. It is important to understand that a process is taking
place in the background of each and every step – God is systematically transforming followers into the image of His son.
Transformation Happens When We Respond To His Leading
 Romans 12:1 Therefore, I urge you, brothers, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as living sacrifices, holy
and pleasing to God—this is your spiritual act of worship. 2 Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world,
but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—
his good, pleasing and perfect will.
Our Lives Are Being Transformed Into Jesus’ Image
 Romans 8:29 For those God foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the likeness of his Son, that he
might be the firstborn among many brothers.
Transformation Happens To The Unhealthy Areas Of Our Lives That Rob Us, Others And Him
The Transforming Process Will Take A Lifetime
 Philippians 3:20 But our citizenship is in heaven. And we eagerly await a Savior from there, the Lord Jesus Christ,
Philippians 3:21 who, by the power that enables him to bring everything under his control, will transform our lowly
bodies so that they will be like his glorious body.
The Ongoing Battle: Temptation, Sin And Repentance
This world and our lives needed to be redeemed because of sin. As a forgiven and redeemed follower in the process of
being transformed, it is critical that you navigate the reality of temptations and sin, and the need for repentance. Sin put
Christ on the cross and caused death to enter and destroy our lives and everyone around us. And although Jesus conquered
sin and death on the cross, we will continue to wrestle with it until we are resurrected with Christ.
The Struggle With Sin Is:
A Battle
 1 Timothy 6:12 Fight the good fight of the faith. Take hold of the eternal life to which you were called and about
which you made the good confession in the presence of many witnesses.
 Ephesians 6:11-13 Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the schemes of the devil.
12 For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic
powers over this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places. 13 Therefore take up
the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand firm.
Ongoing
 Romans 7:21-25 So I find it to be a law that when I want to do right, evil lies close at hand. 22 For I delight in the
law of God, in my inner being, 23 but I see in my members another law waging war against the law of my mind and
making me captive to the law of sin that dwells in my members. 24 Wretched man that I am! Who will deliver me
from this body of death? 25 Thanks be to God through Jesus Christ our Lord! So then, I myself serve the law of God
with my mind, but with my flesh I serve the law of sin.
This constant battle requires us to understand the fight, and how we should respond.
Temptation:
We Are All Tempted
 1 Corinthians 10:13 No temptation has overtaken you that is not common to man.
Jesus Was Tempted
 Matthew 4:1 Then Jesus was led up by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil.
 Hebrews 2:18 For because he himself has suffered when tempted, he is able to help those who are being tempted.
 Hebrew 4:15 For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but one who in
every respect has been tempted as we are, yet without sin.
We Are Tempted By Internal Desires
 James 1:13 When tempted, no one should say, “God is tempting me.” For God cannot be tempted by evil, nor does
he tempt anyone; 14 but each one is tempted when, by his own evil desire, he is dragged away and enticed. 15
Then, after desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and sin, when it is fullgrown, gives birth to death.
God Helps Us In Temptation
 1 Corinthians 10:13 God is faithful, and he will not let you be tempted beyond your ability, but with the
temptation he will also provide the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it.
Giving In To Temptation Is Sin
 James 1:13-15 Let no one say when he is tempted, “I am being tempted by God,” for God cannot be tempted with
evil, and he himself tempts no one. 14 But each person is tempted when he is lured and enticed by his own desire.
15 Then desire when it has conceived gives birth to sin, and sin when it is fully grown brings forth death.
Sin:
We All Sin
 Romans 3:23 for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God
Sin Always Produces Death
 Romans 6:23 For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.
Sin Wants To Master Us
 Genesis 4:7 If you do well, will you not be accepted? And if you do not do well, sin is crouching at the door. Its
desire is for you, but you must rule over it.”
Repentance:
Is Required Of Us
 Acts 3:18-20 But what God foretold by the mouth of all the prophets, that his Christ would suffer, he thus fulfilled.
19 Repent therefore, and turn back, that your sins may be blotted out, 20 that times of refreshing may come from
the presence of the Lord, and that he may send the Christ appointed for you, Jesus,
Grief Of Sin Leads To Repentance
 2 Corinthians 7:8-10 For even if I made you grieve with my letter, I do not regret it—though I did regret it, for I see
that that letter grieved you, though only for a while. 9 As it is, I rejoice, not because you were grieved, but because
you were grieved into repenting. For you felt a godly grief, so that you suffered no loss through us. 10 For godly
grief produces a repentance that leads to salvation without regret, whereas worldly grief produces death.
God Is Faithful To Forgive
 1 John 1:9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all
unrighteousness.
Once Forgiven, We Are To Strive To Sin No More
 John 8:10 Jesus straightened up and asked her, “Woman, where are they? Has no one condemned you?” 11 “No
one, sir,” she said. “Then neither do I condemn you,” Jesus declared. “Go now and leave your life of sin.”
 John 5:14 Later Jesus found him at the temple and said to him, “See, you are well again. Stop sinning or something
worse may happen to you.”
