Energy of the Cell
Monday 11/9/15
Title: Cellular Respiration PPT, Cellular Respiration Graphic Organizer, Plant Growth & Light
Virtual Activity
Standard:
SB3 → Students will derive the relationship between single-celled and multi-celled organisms
and the increasing complexity of systems
(a) Explain the cycling of energy through the processes of photosynthesis and respiration
Essential Question:
What are the important stages of cellular respiration? How does the color of light affect plant
growth?
Bellringer:
What is cellular respiration?
Activator:
What was the relationship between the snail and Elodea plant?
Teaching Strategies:
 Students will take fill-in-the-blank notes on cellular respiration using Nearpod.
 Then students will complete 3 comprehension questions on Nearpod, based on the
notes they took.
 Finally students will participate in a virtual lab to investigate the effect of different colors
of light has on plant growth.
Summarizer:
Students will answer questions based on the virtual lab data.

Title: Travel Light Project
Standard:
SB3 → Students will derive the relationship between single-celled and multi-celled organisms
and the increasing complexity of systems
(a) Explain the cycling of energy through the processes of photosynthesis and respiration
Essential Question:
What are the important stages of photosynthesis? What are the important stages of cellular
respiration? What is the relationship between photosynthesis and cellular respiration?
Bellringer:
What is photosynthesis?
Activator:
Describe the energy production of ATP in glycolysis, Krebs cycle, and electron transportation.
Teaching Strategies:
 Students will work on a project where they have describe the pathway of molecules
through the stages of photosynthesis and cellular respiration.
Summarizer:
Students will share their brainstorming flowchart with the instructor.

Title: Cellular Respiration Quiz, Travel Light Project
Bellringer:
What process produces the most ATP?
Activator:
Students will take a 5-question multiple choice quiz about cellular respiration through Socrative.
Teaching Strategies:
 Students will continue to work on a project where they have describe the pathway of
molecules through the stages of photosynthesis and cellular respiration.
Summarizer:
Students will identify what they still need to complete on their project.

Title: Travel Light Project
Standard:
SB3 → Students will derive the relationship between single-celled and multi-celled organisms
and the increasing complexity of systems
(a) Explain the cycling of energy through the processes of photosynthesis and respiration
Essential Question:
What are the important stages of cellular respiration?
Bellringer:
Where does photosynthesis occur? Where does cellular respiration occur?
Activator:
Get out your project materials.
Teaching Strategies:
 Students will continue to work on a project where they have describe the pathway of
molecules through the stages of photosynthesis and cellular respiration.
Summarizer:
Students will identify what they still need to complete on their project to finish it.
Cell Cycle & Cell Division
Friday 11/13/15
Title: Vocabulary Preview
Standard:
SB1 → Students will analyze the nature of relationships between structures and functions in
living cells
(a) Explain the role of cell organelles for both prokaryotic and eukaryotic cells, including the
cell membrane, in maintaining homeostasis and cell reproduction
SB2 → Students will analyze how biological traits are passed on to successive generations
SB3 → Students will derive the relationship between single-celled and multi-celled organisms
and the increasing complexity of systems
Essential Question:
What are the important terms in the Cell Cycle & Cell Division unit?
Bellringer:
What is the relationship between photosynthesis and cellular respiration?
Activator:
What do you think is meant by cell division?
Teaching Strategies:
 Students will create a foldable for all the important vocabulary terms, matching the
correct term to its definition.
Summarizer:
Students will participate in a Kahoot! game to review important terms.
