In the Cytoplasm: glucose is broken into smaller molecules. Oxygen is NOT involved. Only a small amount of energy is released. 2. In the Mitochondria: Molecules brown down even move by chemical reactions that REQUIRE OXYGEN. Release a LOT of energy. Carbon dioxide and Water are released (through exhaling)
