Photosynthesis and Cellular Respiration Notes

Photosynthesis
How cells capture energy in sunlight and use it to make food.
Autotroph- organisms that makes its own food
Heterotroph- organisms that cannot make its own food (consumers)
Cellular Respiration
NOT BREATHING
How cells obtain energy from glucose (breaking it down)
OPPOSITE of
photosynthesis
Two Stages of Cellular Respiration:
1. In the Cytoplasm: glucose is broken into smaller molecules. Oxygen is NOT involved. Only a small amount
of energy is released.
2. In the Mitochondria: Molecules brown down even move by chemical reactions that REQUIRE OXYGEN.
Release a LOT of energy. Carbon dioxide and Water are released (through exhaling)
