PURPOSE OF ASSIGNMENT
The purpose of this assignment is to:

Enable you application of your critical analysis attributes and demonstrate your understanding o f
strategic, tactical and operational challenges facing modern project management (PM) profession
within the Architecture, Engineering and Construction (AEC) industry
Provide evidence of your ability to review and evaluate various organisational structures
forming project environment of a complex (international) construction project
ASSUMPTION:
Assume that you were appointed the Construction Manager to assist Project Management Team
in managing construction of the “BCA Class-6 Drive-through restaurant” (SRM752-T3 2014) project.
The project scope relates ONLY to the construction phase. Necessary design and project
management information is provided in CloudDeakin (“2014 case PROJECT” folder).
ASSIGNMENT TASK
Based on the above assumption your tasks are as follow:










Introduce (very briefly) the “BCA Class-6 Drive-through restaurant” (SRM752-T3 2014) project
(scope of work, project procurement, stakeholders, etc)
Detail scope (deliverables) of the “BCA Class-6 Drive-through restaurant” (SRM752-T3 2014)
project
Define your role as the Construction Manager on this project
Identify strategic, tactical and operational challenges currently facing PM discipline
Identify strategic, tactical and operational challenges currently facing AEC industry
Identify strategic, tactical and operational challenges that the “BCA Class-6 Drive-through
restaurant” (SRM752-T3 2014) project is likely to face at its construction phase
Identify and briefly define a number of feasible organizational structures for managing
medium-scale, local-projects (including but not limited to traditional organizations, pure
product, projected organizations, matrix organizations, and relationship - based
organizational structures such as IPD, Partnering, PPP)
Recommend p r o j e c t organization most appropriate for the construction phase of the
“BCA Class-6 Drive-through restaurant” (SRM752-T3 2014) project. Your recommendation to
the project stakeholders should provide detailed description and justification for the proposed
structure
Benchmark/evaluate your recommendation against other feasible organisational structures
that could be employed on the “BCA Class-6 Drive-through restaurant” (SRM752-T3 2014)
project
Identify possible implications of your proposed organisational structure in relation to strategic,
tactical and operational challenges likely to face the project

Preferred submission format of the assignment is an essay; however, a technical report
submission is also acceptable (pdf).
