Liberation Jesus’ Mission The Spirit of the Sovereign Lord is upon me, Because the Lord has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to bind up the broken hearted, To proclaim freedom for the prisoners And recovery of sight for the blind, To set the oppressed free, to proclaim the year of the LORD’s favour. (Luke 4 v 18-19, NIV) Liberation-Comfort Good news to the poor ...the LORD has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to bind up the broken hearted, (Luke 4:18) ‘I have compassion on these people...’ (Mark8:2) Liberation - Deliverance A change of life ‘He has sent me to bind up the broken hearted, To proclaim freedom for the prisoners’ (Luke 4:18) I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.’ (Matt 25:36) Liberation - Healing To proclaim freedom for the prisoners And recovery of sight for the blind, (Luke 4:18) Wherever he went- into villages towns or countryside – they placed the sick in the market places. The begged him to let them touch even the edge of his cloak, and all who touched it were healed. (Mark 6:56) Liberation - Jubilee As if it never was- To set the oppressed free, to proclaim the year of the LORD’s favour. (Luke 4:18-19) Surely he took our pain and bore our suffering, yet we considered him punished by God, stricken by him, afflicted. But he was pierced for our transgressions, he was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was on him and by His wounds we are healed. (Is 53:4-5)
