These issues will be examined within the framework of economic globalization and the global economic crisis of 2008-09. Relationship Students who have completed the course successfully should be able to Net Effect Prog. Output 1 discuss various theoretical applications of the International 7 4 Political Economy. 2 further their skills in clear, precise writing via both in-class and 1,9 4,4 take home essays. 3 discuss how theories of IPE affect in practice issues of global 7 4 economic relations 4 analyze the interaction between state, capital, and labor 7 3 5 examine the process of capital accumulation in the international 5 3 system and its effects on markets 6 examine the instruments, strategies, and motives of political 7 3 institutions for managing international economic relations 7 analyze the present and former economic crises of the world 7 4 capitalist system. Course Description: This course examines the politics of global economic relations. Among the specific topics to be discussed are: trade and protectionism, the role and performance of global institutions such as the IMF, World Bank, and WTO, the significance of multinational corporations, efforts at regional economic integration such as the EU and NAFTA, the relationship of the world economy to the economic development of poor countries, and the emergence of new economic players such as China and India.
