document explains which settings are migrated by USMT 4.0 downlevel manifest XML files. It is organized by component, notes the manifest for a more detailed examination, gives a synopsis of what is migrated, and provides one or more sample graphical interfaces to the settings when possible. This document is not a complete list of all settings migrated or application interfaces, but instead provides a high-level entry point for an administrator to dig into details. This document only applies to Windows XP SP3 as a source computer OS running SCANSTATE.EXE. For further info on CONFIG.XML and the USMT manifests, examine: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd560760(v=WS.10).aspx http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd560793(v=WS.10).aspx http://blogs.technet.com/b/askds/archive/2011/05/11/does-usmt-migrate-lt-this-goo-gt.aspx http://blogs.technet.com/b/askds/archive/tags/usmt/ 2 Windows Search Config Entry <component displayname="WindowsSearchEngine-DL" migrate="yes" ID="http://www.microsoft.com/migration/1.0/migxmlext/cmi/windowssearchengine-dl/windowssearchenginedl/settings"/> Config Manifest "\USMT\x86\DlManifests\windowssearchengine-dl.man" Behavior Synopsis Migrates Windows Search Service settings for the computer. Not user-specific. 3 Themes Config Entry <component displayname="Microsoft-Windows-themeui-DL" migrate="yes" ID="http://www.microsoft.com/migration/1.0/migxmlext/cmi/microsoft-windows-themeui-dl/microsoftwindows-themeui-dl/settings"/> Config Manifest "\USMT\x86\DlManifests\themeui-dl.man" Behavior Synopsis Migrate the desktop theme for each user. Not computer-specific. Special Consequences: turns off Aero theme on destination if left enabled. Tablet Input Core Config Entry <component displayname="Microsoft-Windows-TabletPC-Platform-Input-Core-DL" migrate="yes" ID="http://www.microsoft.com/migration/1.0/migxmlext/cmi/microsoft-windows-tabletpc-platform-inputcore-dl/microsoft-windows-tabletpc-platform-input-core-dl/settings"/> </component> 4 Config Manifest "\USMT\x86\DlManifests\tabletpcplatforminput-core-dl.man" Behavior Synopsis Migrate tablet PC input settings, only if TabletPC feature is installed. Migrates both user and computer settings. Tablet Journal Config Entry <component displayname="Microsoft-Windows-TabletPC-Journal-DL" migrate="yes" ID="http://www.microsoft.com/migration/1.0/migxmlext/cmi/microsoft-windows-tabletpc-journaldl/microsoft-windows-tabletpc-journal-dl/settings"/> Config Manifest "\USMT\x86\DlManifests\tabletpcjournal-dl.man" Behavior Synopsis Migrate tablet PC Windows Journal settings, only if TabletPC feature is installed. Only useful if the custom DLLs are installed on the destination. Special Consequences: probably has no value in migration unless same third party remote access software used on destination. No screenshot possible. AOL and MSN are example clients. 6 Mapped Printers Config Entry <component displayname="Microsoft-Windows-Printing-Spooler-Networkclient-DL" migrate="yes" ID="http://www.microsoft.com/migration/1.0/migxmlext/cmi/microsoft-windows-printing-spoolernetworkclient-dl/microsoft-windows-printing-spooler-networkclient-dl/settings"/> Config Manifest "\USMT\x86\DlManifests\printing-spooler-networkclient-dl.man" Behavior Synopsis Migrates mapped network printer settings, per-user settings. Per-computer settings are for non-useful stuff. These settings have no effect on local printers or printers shared out this computer. Print Spooler Config Entry <component displayname="Microsoft-Windows-Printing-Spooler-Core-DL" migrate="yes" ID="http://www.microsoft.com/migration/1.0/migxmlext/cmi/microsoft-windows-printing-spooler-coredl/microsoft-windows-printing-spooler-core-dl/settings"/> 7 Config Manifest "\USMT\x86\DlManifests\printing-spooler-core-dl.man" Behavior Synopsis Migrates computer’s Spooler settings. Telephony Config Entry <component displayname="Microsoft-Windows-TapiSetup-DL" migrate="yes" ID="http://www.microsoft.com/migration/1.0/migxmlext/cmi/microsoft-windows-tapisetup-dl/microsoftwindows-tapisetup-dl/settings"/> Config Manifest "\USMT\x86\DlManifests\microsoft-windows-tapisetup-dl.man" 8 Behavior Synopsis Migrates telephony settings, both per-user and –per-computer (as XP TAPI settings are mainly stored as computer settings, then referenced by user registry). Windows Address Book (Legacy) Config Entry <component displayname="Microsoft-Windows-WAB-DL" migrate="yes" ID="http://www.microsoft.com/migration/1.0/migxmlext/cmi/microsoft-windows-wab-dl/microsoft-windowswab-dl/settings"/> Config Manifest "\USMT\x86\DlManifests\microsoft-windows-wab-dl.man" Behavior Synopsis Migrates Windows Address Book files and settings while remapping the path to the destination computer’s wab.exe (which will change based on email versions). Triggers Windows Mail to upgrade the WAB. 9 Outlook Express Config Entry <component displayname="Microsoft-Windows-Mail-DL" migrate="yes" ID="http://www.microsoft.com/migration/1.0/migxmlext/cmi/microsoft-windows-mail-dl/microsoft-windowsmail-dl/settings"/> Config Manifest "\USMT\x86\DlManifests\microsoft-windows-mail-dl.man" Behavior Synopsis Migrates legacy mail (such as Outlook Express); even though destination OS of Vista or Windows 7 don’t support that legacy mail, when Live Mail is installed it will read and import those migrated settings automatically. Windows Mail settings are not migrated directly here, but instead in MigApp.xml. 10 Fax Service Config Entry <component displayname="Microsoft-Windows-Fax-Service-DL" migrate="yes" ID="http://www.microsoft.com/migration/1.0/migxmlext/cmi/microsoft-windows-fax-service-dl/microsoftwindows-fax-service-dl/settings"/> Config Manifest "\USMT\x86\DlManifests\microsoft-windows-fax-service-dl.man" Behavior Synopsis Migrates Fax service settings, which are primarily per-computer. 11 Fax User Settings Config Entry <component displayname="Microsoft-Windows-Fax-Common-DL" migrate="yes" ID="http://www.microsoft.com/migration/1.0/migxmlext/cmi/microsoft-windows-fax-common-dl/microsoftwindows-fax-common-dl/settings"/> Config Manifest "\USMT\x86\DlManifests\microsoft-windows-fax-common-dl.man" Behavior Synopsis Migrates per-user FAX settings, such as addresses and phone numbers. 12 Fax Layouts Config Entry <component displayname="Microsoft-Windows-Fax-Client-Applications-DL" migrate="yes" ID="http://www.microsoft.com/migration/1.0/migxmlext/cmi/microsoft-windows-fax-client-applicationsdl/microsoft-windows-fax-client-applications-dl/settings"/> Config Manifest "\USMT\x86\DlManifests\microsoft-windows-fax-client-applications-dl.man" Behavior Synopsis Migrates FAX personalization like cover pages and column layouts, on a per-user basis. 13 Internet Explorer Preferences Config Entry <component displayname="Microsoft-Windows-IE-InternetExplorer-DL" migrate="yes" ID="http://www.microsoft.com/migration/1.0/migxmlext/cmi/microsoft-windows-ie-internetexplorerdl/microsoft-windows-ie-internetexplorer-dl/settings"/> Config Manifest "\USMT\x86\DlManifests\microsoft-windows-ie-internetexplorer-dl.man" Behavior Synopsis Migrates Internet Explorer browser preference settings on a per-user basis. A large number of per-computer and add-on related settings are excluded and allowed to be reset by first run IE to handle upgrades safely. 14 Internet Explorer-based RSS Feeds Config Entry <component displayname="Microsoft-Windows-IE-Feeds-Platform-DL" migrate="yes" ID="http://www.microsoft.com/migration/1.0/migxmlext/cmi/microsoft-windows-ie-feeds-platformdl/microsoft-windows-ie-feeds-platform-dl/settings"/> Config Manifest "\USMT\x86\DlManifests\microsoft-windows-ie-feeds-platform-dl.man" Behavior Synopsis Migrates RSS feeds, on a per-user basis. Important note: this migration code does not fully work, as there are differences in registry data stored between XP and later operating systems and this manifest does not include a translation plugin. Because the destination computer OS is likely to have the up to date time zone info, and custom time zones are extremely unlikely, no problems should be seen. Regional Language Config Entry <component displayname="Microsoft-Windows-TextServicesFramework-Migration-DL" migrate="yes" ID="http://www.microsoft.com/migration/1.0/migxmlext/cmi/microsoft-windows-textservicesframeworkmigration-dl/microsoft-windows-textservicesframework-migration-dl/settings"/> Config Manifest "\USMT\amd64\DlManifests\textservicesframework-migration-dl.man" Plugin: Microsoft-Windows-TextServicesFramework-Migration-DL\msctfmig.dll Behavior Synopsis Regional language configuration, including the language bar. Uses a custom plugin for translation of code pages to locale names. EAP Config Entry <component displayname="Microsoft-Windows-Extensible-Authentication-Protocol-Host-Service-DL" migrate="yes" ID="http://www.microsoft.com/migration/1.0/migxmlext/cmi/microsoft-windows-extensibleauthentication-protocol-host-service-dl/microsoft-windows-extensible-authentication-protocol-hostservice-dl/settings"/> 22 Config Manifest "\USMT\x86\DlManifests\extensibleauthenticationprotocolhostservice-dl.man" Behavior Synopsis Copies settings for any methods added to the Extensible Authentication Protocol service. No UI. Private Character Creator Config Entry <component displayname="Microsoft-Windows-eudcedit-DL" migrate="yes" ID="http://www.microsoft.com/migration/1.0/migxmlext/cmi/microsoft-windows-eudcedit-dl/microsoftwindows-eudcedit-dl/settings"/> Config Manifest "\USMT\x86\DlManifests\eudcedit-dl.man" Behavior Synopsis Migrates fonts and settings created by the Private Character Creator (eudcedit.exe) for the users and the Windows fonts folder. 23 Credential Manager Config Entry <component displayname="Microsoft-Windows-Credential-Manager-DL" migrate="yes" ID="http://www.microsoft.com/migration/1.0/migxmlext/cmi/microsoft-windows-credential-managerdl/microsoft-windows-credential-manager-dl/settings"/> Config Manifest "\USMT\x86\DlManifests\credential-manager-dl.man" Behavior Synopsis Migrates per-user stored credentials (these are NOT saved fast user interactive logon creds, just things like mapped drives and websites). Also migrates the per-computer credential storage rules. Windows Explorer Config Entry <component displayname="Microsoft-Windows-explorer-DL" migrate="yes" ID="http://www.microsoft.com/migration/1.0/migxmlext/cmi/microsoft-windows-explorer-dl/microsoftwindows-explorer-dl/settings"/> 24 Config Manifest "\USMT\x86\DlManifests\explorer-dl.man" Behavior Synopsis Migrates per user Windows Explorer shell settings, such as customizations of the file management UI, shell icons, task bar and start menu. It loads each user profile and migrates registry settings for per-user display settings like DPI, screensaver settings, recycle bin usage and confirmation dialogs, the Start Menu, and User Tiles. Also supposed to migrate "Send to" context menu, but bug in XP prevents this from 25 working correctly (see KB2459849). Supports migrating wallpaper settings, but does not do so from XP to later OS for licensing reasons. 26 Shell Folders Config Entry <component displayname="Microsoft-Windows-shell32-DL" migrate="yes" ID="http://www.microsoft.com/migration/1.0/migxmlext/cmi/microsoft-windows-shell32-dl/microsoftwindows-shell32-dl/settings"/> Config Manifest "\USMT\x86\DlManifests\shell32-dl.man" Behavior Synopsis Migrates per user shell settings such as recent documents, desktop shell icons, and remembered folder views. 27 Command Prompt Config Entry <component displayname="Microsoft-Windows-CommandPrompt-DL" migrate="yes" ID="http://www.microsoft.com/migration/1.0/migxmlext/cmi/microsoft-windows-commandprompt-dl/microsoftwindows-commandprompt-dl/settings"/> 28 Config Manifest "\USMT\x86\DlManifests\commandprompt-dl.man" Behavior Synopsis Migrates limited CMD prompt settings for all users and computers (to include the default user profile settings). No UI for these settings. Win32 Core Config Entry <component displayname="Microsoft-Windows-Win32k-Settings-DL" migrate="yes" ID="http://www.microsoft.com/migration/1.0/migxmlext/cmi/microsoft-windows-win32k-settingsdl/microsoft-windows-win32k-settings-dl/settings"/> Config Manifest "\USMT\x86\DlManifests\win32k-settings-dl.man" Behavior Synopsis Migrates Win32 settings, the per-computer specific agnostic service, timeout, system font settings, debug, and error settings (these have no UI).
