Castlebeck is a leading provider of specialist healthcare and rehabilitation services for
people aged 18 and over with learning disabilities, significant challenging behaviour and
complex needs. Service users from across the UK are typically referred by Social Workers or
Psychiatrists. Customers include NHS and local authorities.

Occupational Therapist
Working as part of Castlebeck’s clinical team, as Lead Occupational Therapist, covering
residential homes and independent hospitals in the North East and Scotland.
The clinical team consists of specialist behavioural nursing, psychiatry, psychology, speech
and language therapy, and occupational therapy.
Requests for occupational therapy involvement tend to relate to physical difficulties (e.g.
moving and handling, bathing assessments, & eating assessments); sensory deficits; activity
engagement; & skills assessment and development. Psychosocial work is also available for
clients who also have mental health issues. Requests can be for individuals or groups of
residents on a unit.
From a wider perspective the role also involves supporting the development of activity
services (‘24/7’); developing a corporate strategy that focuses on productivity and
employment.
Professional representation, policy development, consultancy and delivering training are also
central to the role.

Clinical supervision is undertaken monthly with a clinical psychologist. Informal links are also
utilised with other OTs. Links with other clinical team members occur informally and on an ad
hoc basis, and formally at regular clinical meetings.
