DIRECTOR OF FINANCE EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITY PERMANENT FULL-TIME St. Mary’s Indian Band, located in the beautiful southeast corner of BC, is looking for a dynamic, highly motivated, multitask oriented, professional individual to fill the position of Director of Finance! This position involves working closely with Chief and Council and reports directly to the Chief Operating Officer. The Director of Finance is responsible for managing the financial records of the Organization. The Director of Finance develops, in cooperation with the COO and senior staff and for approval by Council, short, medium and longterm integrated budget and cash flow projections and financial management plans to correspond with the community strategic plan and special projects. In addition, the position monitors spending across operations to gauge pace with budget, proposes policy and prepares reports as required to maintain compliance with internal and external regulations and coordinates information technology systems. The position will be expected to work closely with Aboriginal Affairs and Northern Development Canada and adhere to their policies and procedures. Responsibilities: This position is evolving with the transition to self-governance. Knowledge of internal controls, audit requirements and procedures and corporate business tax returns Experience in government revenue and taxation, financial policy setting and administration Ability to provide leadership to a diverse team of professionals, as part of a team Experience in directing, guiding, coaching, developing staff Excellent interpersonal relations skills, including the ability to work within a team environment that interacts with staff, community and Chief & Council Conflict resolution skills including the ability to conduct group mediation Excellent written and oral communication skills including the ability to explain complex concepts to a variety of levels of understanding Advanced level of information technology/computer skills (Windows environment) Familiarity with federal and provincial government policies and programs related for First Nation’s governments and organizations as well as their special reporting requirements Previous experience working with First Nation’s organizations A knowledge of and appreciation for the culture, values and political objectives of the Ktunaxa Nation would be a definite asset The position will be expected to become familiar with St Mary’s Indian Band Financial Administrative Law. Qualifications: Accounting Designation of CGA, CA or CMA A minimum of five years previous experience in a First Nation local government would be a definite asset Knowledge of community government structure and operations Extensive managerial experience at a senior level Demonstrable good to excellent financial management skills according to generally accepted accounting principles and public sector accounting standards Good program management skills Good to excellent supervisory and human resource management skills Experience working with Aboriginal Affairs and Northern Development Canada would be an asset Strong computer skills including advanced knowledge of Microsoft-based software and other applicable software programs including Sage AccPac Ability to function as part of a diverse team of professionals Ability to perform group mediation and demonstrate excellent inter-personal relationship skills Demonstrable exceptional written and oral communication skills Undergo a Criminal Record Check Possess a valid Class 5 BC Driver’s Licence Remuneration: Salary is commensurate with experience and qualifications and includes a favourable benefits and pension plan.
