aspects of environmental
management systems and learning
outcome 2 refers to sustainability
(Critically discuss the relation
between enterprises and a
sustainable society)
ES 3423 The course discusses
sustainable management of water
resources. One of its learning
outcomes (LO2) is that students

concepts of sustainable water
resources management and
integrated water resources
management and apply it to an
analysis of selected case studies.”
ES 3224
The course discusses air quality and
global atmospheric changes issues.
LO 3: Students should “demonstrate
knowledge of policy and legislation
on atmospheric problems and
acquire the ability to critically assess
strategies used at local and global
level for climate protection, ozone
layer protection and minimization of
air pollution”
ES 3225
Course description: An integrated
approach to soil fertility and
sustainable food production. The
principles of soil formation and selfsustaining soil systems, biodiversity,
biologically grown food, irrigation,
water management and social values
are discussed.
ES 3226
The course discusses Mediterranean
ecosystems and wildlife as well as
conservation and ecosystem
management issues. Students should
be in a position to “critically evaluate
strategies used at local and global
level to address issues of biodiversity
and conservation”.
ES 3328

to EU legislation and sustainable
development strategy and discusses
the integration of environmental
issues in the decision and of other
policy sectors.
ES3329 clearly refers to sustainable
cities.

Solid Waste Management, with
emphasis on prevention, reuse,
recycling and composting. According
to Learning Outcome 2, students
should “acquire the ability to apply
the concept of sustainability on the
selection and design of solid waste
management systems.”
ES 4430
Student capstone projects may have
a sustainability component; e.g.
environmental justice (social
dimension of sustainability) or

HNS 2285

environmental aspects of campus
life.
ΑR 1017 DIGITAL IMAGE: In this class
we consider the wider context of
how the digital image affects our
view and understanding of our
world, our bodies, and our daily
communications. The final project
asks students to make works that
take into account the context in
which the image is either produced
or shown, and in preparation for
that we discuss the energy
needed for digital devices and for
server storage facilities, where the
materials used in new technologies
come from, and how working on or
viewing the digital image affects our
physical bodies.
AR 1009 FNDLS 4D -I: Fundamentals
of 4D-I, Time-Based Media: This class
focuses on understanding how new
forms of art arise out of our context
in time and on making time-based
works. To introduce this, there are
on-going formative exercises helping
students to become mindful of
themselves and the environment.
AR 3110 FNDLS 4D- II: Fundamentals
of 4D-I: The first summative
assignment for this class deals with
process. We look at the work of a
series of artists working with process
and the environment, and have
formative exercises
observing materials in nature. The
final summative assignment is an
explicit interdisciplinary
collaboration. To prepare for this we
consider multiple methods for coexistence, conflict mediation and
collaboration as practiced by artists.
AR 4140 ISSUES IN CONT. ART:
Issues in Contemporary Art: The
class requires students to make
a site-specific exhibition of their own
or another artist's work. We examine
the local art scene and meet local
artists. There is a strong emphasis
on strategies for artistic
sustainability. This means
considering economic, social, and
creative resources,
while articulating the students'
personal concerns regarding
contemporary, political and
ecological events. The final project
represents the students' developing
self-empowerment to create works
of conscience.

BI 1000 This is a course where an
integrated exploration of the
fundamentals of biology as a
science, the nature of life, biological
chemistry, cell biology, metabolism
and human body anatomy and
function are explored together with
ethical and health issues.
BI 1101 This is the second part of an
integrated exploration of major
principles of biology. Emphasis is put
on diversity of life, development, cell
division, molecular biology, genetics,
evolution, and ecology where issues
of population concerns, biodiversity
and conservation are explored.
Consideration of issues and
applications related to society are also
examined.
BI 1006 This is an integrated issues
based course where especially in LO
5 students evaluate the effects of
population explosion. They also
explain how nutrition affects health.

internal firm resources and capabilities take a central role. We also examine strategic choices at
the business unit, corporate, and network level. Finally, the course examines strategies in different

THE MANAGEMENT
OF LEGAL CONFLICT
MSc in Business for Lawyers
Social and business interactions are strategic, in the sense that one party’s actions affect the other
party and vice versa. One may choose to interact by reaching agreement with the other side or,
simply, by seeking to impose one’s view based on commercial power or judicial intervention. This
course seeks to study both types of interactions. Firstly, it begins with the analysis of Legal
Strategy, that is: the legal interaction that seeks ‘the best possible’ outcome within the constraints
of the law, by taking into account the interactivity between the parties and, occasionally, between
the parties and the judicial system. It then proceeds to explore the fundamental ways agreement
may be sought between the parties either alone (i.e., Negotiations) or in the presence and with the
assistance of a third party facilitator (i.e., Mediation). This course concludes with the discussion of
how, during litigation in particular, all these processes are potentially interwoven and
interdependent. This course helps the students develop the strategic tools necessary in order to
manage their clients’ conflicts (or transactions) most proficiently. –

The objective of this course is to assist students begin the process of crafting entrepreneurship, by
exploring and engaging with entrepreneurial thinking, opportunities, an unknowable future, and
building from strong ideas, within a context of limited resources. The course also addresses the key
realities of (affordable) risk, and entrepreneurial failure. Participants will develop an understanding
of how to use their commonly available resources to build viable, productive, enduring
organizations that create real value. Built upon the radical means-driven approach of effectuation
theory, this class challenges learners to think about how they can transform current realities into
valuable new possibilities. They will learn to use commonly available and highly personal
resources (their intelligence, insight, energy, initiative, educational background and personal
relationships) to create, finance, and build new opportunities of every kind. –
