It ran past the place where sacrifices were offered. • Its contents would have be BLOOD • The 1st century historian Josephus records that during one Passover, over 250,000 sacrifices were offered in the temple in Jerusalem. • The blood of those animals would have been channeled beyond the walls into the brook • The brook would have been flowing with a river of BLOOD. Meanwhile, his former friend and counselor Ahithophel betrays him to Absalom and soon hangs himself. (2Sa 17:1-2) Moreover Ahithophel said unto Absalom, Let me now choose out twelve thousand men, and I will arise and pursue after David this night: And I will come upon him while he is weary and weak handed, and will make him afraid: and all the people that are with him shall flee; and I will smite the king only: (2Sa 17:23) And when Ahithophel saw that his counsel was not followed, he saddled his ass, and arose, and gat him home to his house, to his city, and put his household in order, and hanged himself, and died, and was buried in the sepulchre of his father.
