As a heads up, as of October 18th, my name will be changing to Mrs. Stultz. Feel free to still call me Miss Warner if that is what you are comfortable with, but as I change my name with the school district, my school email will change too. I will be sure to let everyone know when the official change in email has occurred. Below you will find my policies regarding homework, tests, academic integrity and classroom procedures. GRADING Student grade will be based on the following: 50% Tests 35% Quizzes 15% Homework/projects Final grade is calculated by .89*(overall class grade) + .11*(final exam) = final grade Homework: As I’m sure you’ve heard before, homework is critical to becoming comfortable and fluent in your mathematical skills. As you are in an honors class though, I do not believe that I should have to check up on you everyday to be sure you are doing your homework. I will randomly check homework as I see fit; please know that you jeopardize your own grade should you choose to not complete homework. Homework passes may be used for checked homework assignments unless I specify otherwise. Homework must be fully completed by the beginning of class; I do not accept late homework. All problems must at least be attempted to receive full credit. Mid-term: A cumulative mid-term will be given mid-year and will count as 1/3 of your final exam grade. Homework & Extra Credit Passes: Homework passes are distributed to students who receive a 90% or higher on reasonable quizzes and tests. Certain quizzes may not be utilized as assessments that earn homework passes. Homework passes can be used on any future assignment unless I specify homework passes will not be accepted for a certain assignment. Some assignments are so crucial for success, that they must be completed by everyone. Extra credit passes will be handed out on various occasions throughout the year. These passes may be used on future assignments only. PED (Personal Electronic Device) Policy: All PED’s must be turned off/on silent and put out of sight while in my classroom unless I say otherwise. I have a strict policy regarding PED uses in my classroom. If you are caught using a PED, you will receive a verbal warning for the first time only (this means one warning for the entire year). After your warning, if you violate a PED policy, it will mean detention and an email/phone call home. After 3 detentions, you will be written up and have consequences assigned by the principal. It is important to understand that being on your phone or other mobile device while you are in my class is considered disrespectful; it is like saying that my class is not worth your time and attention. Just put your phone away, IT CAN WAIT! Absence Policy: Attendance is very important in math. As math builds upon itself, it is very difficult to catch up if you are not in class. Life happens though, so it is important that you make every effort to catch yourself up. It is your responsibility to figure out what you missed and take the extra time to make up material. For each day you are out of school, you will have an extra day to make up any missed assignments. I keep a week’s worth of materials in trays on the front table in my classroom; you may pick up missed handouts/materials from those trays. If you know ahead of time that you will be absent, it is your responsibility to come see me one week ahead of time to let me know you will be out. Please do not wait until the day before to tell me you will be absent. Tutoring/Extra Help: LDHS offers math tutoring every Monday after school. I am more than willing to offer assistance if I have time, so you can also see me about scheduling tutoring sessions. Class Rules and Expectations: To make sure everyone is receiving a fair and healthy education, the following class rules and expectations are enforced in my room: Be on time! This means you are in your seat completing the warmup when the bell rings. (Do not be on your phone when the bell rings!) Remain in your seat until the bell rings or you are dismissed. Do not line up by the door. Be respectful of your other classmates and myself. This means you do not talk while someone else is speaking to the class, help others as you are able, do not sharpen your pencil or create other noise until I, or a classmate is done speaking, and be kind. All other school policies and procedures are enforced in my classroom. Materials You will want the following materials for my classroom. If you have trouble acquiring these materials, please let me know. A three-ring binder that is utilized only for math note handouts, quizzes and completed homework/labs A folder to transport homework assignments Notebook paper Calculator (a regular scientific is fine, but a TI-83 or TI-84/84 Plus is recommended if you are going to take Honors Alg. 2 and higher) pencil Please note that this is a high school honors course, and for most of you, high school is a new experience. This course will be rigorous, fast-paced and more thorough than what you’re probably used to. My job, however, is to teach you to be better thinkers and more confident in your ability to utilize your knowledge to overcome a challenge. I am looking forward to working with each and every one of you this year and am always here to help you! (Detach and Return Bottom Portion) Please sign and return to Miss Warner no later than Friday, September 5. “By signing below, I acknowledge that I have read, understood and agreed to the information mentioned in this syllabus.” _________________________________ Student Name _________________________________ Student Signature _______________ Date _________________________________ Parent/Guardian Name _________________________________ Parent/Guardian Signature ________________ Date
