29 November 1988 – incorporated under Companies
Ordinance, Cap.32, HK Laws as a company limited by
guarantee;
9 May 1997 – enacted under Cap. 507, HK Laws as a legal
professional body;
Members are engaged in the co-ordination and execution of
housing services incorporating the design, provision,
improvement, rehabilitation, management and administration
of all types of housing;
Total membership about 2,900 * currently serve 18 HKSAR
Districts;
Corporate Members (M.H.K.I.H.) and Fellow Members
(F.H.K.I.H) are eligible to apply for Registered Professional
Housing Manager (R.P.H.M.) under Cap.550, HK Laws
recognized by the HKSAR Government

Roadmap to Implement CPD





6 Sept 2003 – CPD Kick –off Ceremony to commence
voluntary CPD program.
21 Dec 2005 – EGM passed amendment on the By-Laws to
implement mandatory CPD program on 1 Jan 2006
By early of 2006 – Announcement and publicity material sent
out to members
29 Oct 2005 – 4 Mar 2006 – 4 Discussion Sessions with
Corporate and Fellow Members held
28 Nov 2006 – Briefing Sessions recording of CPD units &
delivery of CPD Guidance Notes


Any activities enable you to maintain and enhance your
professional competence and thus, you are in the best position
to decide.

The HKIH offers you a simple self-assessment mechanism.
Ask yourself whether the activities will:



enhance yourself?
enable you to practice more competently?
keep you aware of the changing needs in the profession?

Activities which count as CPD




CPD program of other professional bodies can be
counted as CPD of the HKIH simultaneously.
The HKIH does not validate courses or events to be
counted for valid CPD unit (s).
The cut-off date for CPD reporting is set on 30th Nov
each year.

apartments and 20 detached houses

(b) Handling management fee accounts and arrears

(c) Supervising cleansing contractors in executing their work


No need to submit evidence/proof of attendance for
the activities. In case of doubt, evidence of attendance
may be required by the Institute.

Assessment of CPD Units

CPD Activities are counted in terms of ‘units’.

One CPD unit is equivalent to one hour of
study/learning/participation of an activity intended.

Activities/events organized by The HKIH will be
accredited with CPD units for participating members

The number of units allocated to each event is subject
to the absolute discretion of the Education Committee
of The HKIH.

The HKIH website www.housing.org.hk contains all
information, including personal CPD Record for you
to fill in.

As the CPD plan is purely your personal plan, you
can create your own plan to suit individual needs.

Submission of CPD

Fellows/Members shall apply for renewal of the
membership on or before 30 Nov each year

Submit an Application Form – For Renewal of
Membership in which a declaration of fulfillment of
CPD requirement for the immediate past 12 months
was embedded.

Submission of CPD

Newly admitted Members are not required to fulfill
the mandatory CPD requirement for the year that
he/she is admitted.

Member upgraded to Fellow of The HKIH in any
time of a year is still required to comply with the
mandatory CPD by the end of that year.

Submission of CPD

Members are required to submit their CPD Records to
The HKIH for record and verification through the
CPD Record Function of The HKIH website.


Submission of CPD

The HKIH adopts an honor system for members to
report their CPD records.

The HKIH will maintain control over the validity of
those submissions by means of a random call, or an
interview of CPD records from members.

If I cannot complete my CPD

Make an application to The HKIH for an extension of
the CPD submission.


Submission Date

Period of extension is not more than three months
after the ordinary cut-off date for CPD submission.

If I cannot complete my CPD

All CPD units earned during the extended period
shall be counted under the CPD units for the previous
membership year.

The member concerned is still required to fulfill the
CPD requirements on or before 30 Nov of the current
membership year.

If I cannot complete my CPD

If still fail to complete the CPD within the extended
period, the Membership Committee shall report to the
General Council of the HKIH for resolution of
suspension or termination of the membership.

If I cannot complete my CPD

All CPD units earned during the extended period
shall only be counted for the previous membership
year.

Regardless the approval of extension, you are still
required to fulfilled the CPD requirements on or
before 30 Nov of the current membership year.
