Introduction

The purpose of this report is to identify which building at the University of North Texas

(UNT) is the most effective. The effectiveness of each building at a university effects how the university is evaluated. The structure and functions in each building can even effect the schools ratings. The University of North Texas was founded in 1890. Since then, it has held classes and educated students in numerous buildings. Some of the oldest buildings at UNT include the General Academic building and the Union. UNT has evolved in the structure and function of its buildings. Some of UNT’s newly built buildings include the Business Leadership Building. This report will compare and contrast the different buildings at UNT.

Auditorium Analysis

First Look

The Auditorium (AUD) being the older one of the three buildings we hypothesized that its condition would be a little bad. Before going into a detailed analysis we saw many imperfections, more than first thought. After the general look over we started a detailed list using our criteria.

Detailed Look

Cleanliness (4):

 Stains throughout building

 Dead bugs in lights

 Big vent has lent the size of a hot dog bun

Bathroom (6):

 Nice and clean

 New Dyson hand dryers

Resources (7):

 Chairs and tables for students

 Water fountains have refilling stations

 Multiple boards for posting announcements

 2 sets of vending machines

 Plenty of printers (black & white, and color)

 Helpful tutors

Maintenance (3):

 Cracks in the floor every few yards

 Holes in walls with unpainted fill

 Siding missing

 Tile color mismatched

 Paint chipping

 Broken door knobs

Ambiance (6):

 Somewhat quiet

Accessibility (7):

 3 sets of stairs

 Open hallways

 1 elevator

Last Look

The Auditorium Building is in general need of maintenance, cleaning, and refurbishing.

The bathrooms have been newly remodeled, but the rest of the building leaves much to be desired. However, there are a fair amount of resources for students and teachers, such as labs, computers, and tutors.

The General Academic Building (GAB) is rudimentary looking from the outside but houses many useful resources inside, giving it a more favorable first impression than the

Cleanliness (9):

 Well kept up

Bathrooms (7):

 Dated but clean

 No automatic hand dryers

 No motion activated faucets

Resources (10):

 Lots of computers

 Lots of study space

 Water fountains have refill stations

 Nice coffee shop on 2 nd floor

 Touchscreen computer displays Mayborn happenings

Maintenance (9):

 All labs, computers, and projectors appear to be running and well maintained

Ambiance (7):

 Many classrooms do not have windows

 Not many windows throughout the building

 College offices are nicely furnished

 Skylights give nice natural light to one side of building

Accessibility (6):

 6 entrances

 Street parking nearby on Hickory

 Hallways cramped

 Some stairwells don’t go all the way to the 1 st floor

Last Look

The General Academic Building is well kept and clean, but can be fairly cramped. It also features a good amount of resources for students and teachers, including a coffee shop, computers labs, and ample study areas.

First Look:

The Business Leadership Building presents an excellent first impression, with modern architecture and vibrant landscaping. A closer inspection of the building found a very pleasant atmosphere and plenty of resources for both students and teachers.

 Clean

 Several stalls

 Option of air drier and paper towels

 Only half of the facets work

 Good lighting

 Computer lab

 Several study rooms

Easily accessible The Business Leadership Building represents a sort of state of the art for UNT’s campus. It is very well maintained, clean, and features a great amount of resources for students and teachers, including a Starbuck’s, several study rooms, and sound proof classrooms. The building’s environment is very conducive to study or recreation.

Recommendation

Based on our results and conclusions, we recommend that students utilize the Business

Leadership Building. The Business Leadership Building proved to be the best building at the University of North Texas. It is the most effective building and being in this building can offer a great experience at UNT.

These are the conclusions of our research:

 The Auditorium Building is in general need of maintenance, cleaning, and refurbishing. The bathrooms have been newly remodeled, but the rest of the building leaves much to be desired. However, there are a fair amount of resources for students and teachers, such as labs, computers, and tutors.
