Higher Business Management Course Outline Higher Business Management focuses on 3 mandatory units: 1. Business Enterprise 2. Business Decision Areas: Marketing and Operations 3. Business Decision Areas: Finance and Human Resource Management Business Enterprise: This unit comprises four key areas: Business in Contemporary Society Business Information and ICT Decision Making Internal Organisation Business Decision Areas: Marketing and Operations Sub Sections 1. Course Notes 2. Home Work Tasks 3. Power Point Revision 4. Revision Questions 5. Past Paper Questions This unit comprises two key areas: Marketing Operations Business Decision Areas: Finance and Human Resource Management This unit comprises two key areas: Financial Management Human Resource Management Assessment Internal Assessment Internal Assessments are written tasks which the pupils will take when they will finish each unit. They will complete Internal Assessment in class time, under exam conditions. There will be 3 Internal Assessments (NABS) of 40 marks each. Each NAB will consist of a case study. Unit - 1 Business Enterprise – Business in Business in Contemporary Society Business Information and ICT Decision Making Unit - 2 Business Decision Areas: Marketing and Operations Unit -3 Business Decision Areas: Finance and Human Resource Management. The pupils’ must achieve at least 50% marks to pass each NAB. If the pupil fails an internal assessment, he/she will be allowed to sit the assessment again, pupil will not get the same assessment but a different one. This resit would usually happen shortly after the first attempt at the assessment. External Assessment The external Assessment is based on a written paper of 2 hours and 30 minutes duration. Pupils will be required to attempt the whole paper which consists of two sections. Section 1 – Case Study (50 Marks) Knowledge and understanding, problem solving and decision making will be assessed through a case study of 750 words. The case study is usually based on a newspaper or magazine article and it provides the basis for the questions in this section. Pupils will not be able to answer all of the questions purely from the text of the case study. All questions in section 1 are compulsory and the pupils will be required to: Analyse the information given and identify the business problems. Identify constraints Devise solutions and make recommendations Justify recommendations. Section 2 – Extended Response Questions (50 Marks) The main purpose of this section will be to assess knowledge and understanding and problem solving skills. Pupils will be required to answer 2 questions from a choice of 5 questions. Each question is worth 25 marks and questions are usually divided into 3-5 parts.
