ELA – Mrs. Fulton
Reading – This week we will be using the skills we
have learned about main ideas and details to
compare two informational (non-fiction) texts on
the same topic. This will be the focus of this
Wednesday’s Cold Read Test. Then we will go
deeper with cause and effect.
Here are some things to ask when you are reading with
your child:
1.What is the main idea of the passage or paragraph you
just read, and how do you know it is the main idea?
2.What details support the main idea?
3.How is the whole passage organized? (cause/effect,
sequence of events/time order, compare/contrast)
4.How is the paragraph you just read organized?
Language Arts – By now, students should have
mastered starting all sentences with capital letters,
ending all sentences with punctuation, and
capitalizing proper nouns. Please have them
check their homework for these details.
