Here are some questions to ask when you are reading with your child. • Why did the chapter/scene you just read have to come after the previous chapter/scene? • If the scene/chapter you just read was left out of the story, would the rest of the story make sense? • What did the author include in the previous scene/chapter that you needed to understand the scene/chapter you just read? Ask your child to identify the words they use when they are talking to you as nouns, verbs, or adjectives. This is a basic skill many of them still have not mastered.
