told David to circle behind Philistia and
wait until he heard the sound of marching

David and The Ark
How to carry the ark…
 The high priest (descendants of Aaron) were
to cover the holy things--so no one would
die.
 Only the Kohathites (of the Levites) could
carry the ark.
 It was to be carried by humans on their
shoulders--not on a cart or a wagon, but by
humans carrying the poles.
 Even if a Kohathite touched it, he would die.
 Even if a Kohathite looked into the ark, he
would die.
 No non-Levite could even come near, under
threat of death.

led the nation in worship before it
 He composed Psa 105…a psalm of praise
and thanksgiving to God 1 Chron 16
 He also arranged the priests re: the care
for the ark

deeds among the peoples!

and despised him in her heart…she later
rebukes David when he gets home

behavior…sadly, he would no longer have
regard for her as his wife
 Michal was barren to the day of her death
(1) Sincerity alone is not enough when we
try to please God
– Religious world’s favorite phrase…
“As long as you’re honest and sincere”
– Do you question Uzzah’s sincerity?
– Do you question David’s sincerity?
– Yet, Uzzah was just as dead and David
was just as wrong as if they had been
very insincere re: their actions
(1) Sincerity alone is not enough when we
try to please God
– Sincerity (spirit) must be matched with
Divine truth Josh 24:14 Jn 4:23
(2) There is no room for emotionalism
– Some might react today like David did
after God’s response 2 Sam 6:8-10
– “If we can’t do it this way, then how are
we going to get it done?”
– “And if we can’t do it this way, then we
won’t do anything at all!”
– Emotional thinking blinds us to the
superiority of Divine wisdom Isa 55:8-9
(2) There is no room for emotionalism
– Even if an emotional idea is considered,
we are still left to deal with the one thing
that won’t change…God’s DUE ORDER
(3) God expects complete obedience
– There can be no misunderstanding
when God issues a plain command
– He expects His “DUE ORDER” to be
obeyed, or there will be consequences
Mt 28:20 Heb 5:8-9 10:26-31
(4) God punishes sin
– God is unlike many modern-day parents
re: unacceptable behavior
– Many threaten punishment, but really
have no intention of following through
– Uzzah would tell us God means what
He says Heb 2:1-3
(5) Sadly, man
is not through

– Likewise, the gospel of Christ knows
nothing about modern-day “new carts”
(denominationalism, institutionalism)
– These ‘new carts’ won’t work any better
than the one David built
