Cat 6 v Class E

Class E

important for end-to-end transmission path
BUT….

can be achieved with non compliant components

relies on headroom in some areas to counter failure in others

relies on typical ‘installations’
 2 connectors
 typical lengths - can have problems with long or short links
Nexans Cabling Solutions,
Jan 2004
22
Cat 6 v Class E

Full Category 6

allows full flexibility now OR in future

4 connector channels
 may want to add cross connect or change configuration in future

no problems with short or long links
Why risk a ‘future proof’ solution by choosing Class E only?
Choose Category 6 AND Class E to guarantee future compliance


Class F systems best suited for

Very long life time of cabling infrastructure


Very high replacement cost of cabling



> 15 years
Ships, Oil rigs, Hospitals, ...

31
Application sharing

Application sharing refers to the ability of a link to run multiple applications
on the same time

Number of applications depends on the amount of wires used by an
application
e.g.
Fast Ethernet data
2 pairs
Gigabit Ethernet data
4 pairs
Voice
1 pair
Fax
1 pair
Video / CaTV
1 pair

Cat 7 avoids possibility of x-talk between applications

Cat 7 provides high bandwidth/pair for CaTV applications
Nexans Cabling Solutions,
