HEIDI ZAMORA NAVA SEMESTER: January – May, 2015 ABSTRACT: The use of numbers is really important in our lives, it does not matter what intellectual or scientific field we are studying, we can use them to several purposes even to get fun, to know these uses will help us to understand our world. Key words: cardinal numbers, Fibonacci’s sequence OBJECTIVE: • At the end of the lesson, students will be able to identify the importance of numbers in our daily life, how we can use them to do daily activities and/or get fun. How important are the numbers in your life??? WE USE THE NUMBERS… To talk about time To count and solve math problems To play mental and board games To identify items • To buy and sell things To know how to use different kinds of currencies. Can you tell me more uses? Let’s go to know the numbers!! The cardinal numbers are: “The numbers are really important in our life because there is no sense without them” But, Who said this phrase? Leonardo Fibonacci Do you know him? No? He was an Italian mathematician who demonstrated that every object, animal, flower, even a human is formed by a specific sequence. It is called Fibonacci sequence and is formed in the following way: 0, 1, 1, 2, 3, 5, 8, 13, 21, 34… 0, 1, 1, 2, 3, 5, 8, 13, 21, 34… The next number is found by adding up the two numbers before it. Examples: The 2 is found by adding the two numbers before it (1+1) Similarly, the 3 is found by adding the two numbers before it (1+2), And the 5 is (2+3), and so on! The next number in the sequence above is 21+34 = 55 It is that simple! Think about yourself. You should have: 5 fingers on each hand 5 toes on each foot 2 arms 2 legs 2 eyes 2 ears That is Fibonacci’s sequence!!! Look for the sequence in these flowers… Curiosities with the numbers The number 7 is one of the most played in games of chance. The number 42 is never used on a T-shirt in the Baseball game. Can you find more curiosities with the following numbers? Let’s go to use them!!! How many are there? Count and match the food with the correct number: How smart are you?
