JOB DESCRIPTION
Senior Research Executive
1. Job Title:
Senior Research Executive
2. Position reports to:
Research Manager (or above)
3. Purpose of Role:
The key role of the Senior Research Executive is to manage quantitative, qualitative
and/or community research projects, both independently and under supervision of
senior researchers.
4. Principal Duties:
4.1.
Involvement in quantitative, qualitative and/or community projects, from
commissioning to presentation.
4.2. Independently managing small and medium sized/complexity projects, working
directly with a project leader.
4.3. Assisting the main project manager on large/ complex projects.
4.4. Project management, design and analysis.
4.5. High levels of client liaison via telephone, email and face-to-face
4.6. High levels of interaction with internal colleagues – some of whom will not be
based in the Manchester office.
4.7. Nature of work will vary depending on which of Join the Dots’ research teams
the SRE works for, but may include:4.7.1. online research (such as U&A studies, concept testing and customer
satisfaction tracking).
4.7.2. online community projects.
4.7.3. research to help improve websites i.e. website research (including qualitative
group discussions, accompanied surfing depth interviews and the use of
online communities).
5. Role and Responsibilities:
5.1.
Project management responsibilities to include being briefed by the client/a
senior colleague; scheduling the project using Join the Dots internal systems;
working effectively with QE; tracking the progress of fieldwork; and keeping the
client/internal colleagues informed at key stages.
5.2. Will generally be the main client contact, but the senior project manager/ project
leader will be expected to provide support on more complex projects.
5.3. Quantitative responsibilities (where required) to include questionnaire design,
analysis and preparation of PowerPoint presentations/reports.
5.4. Expected to be able to design questionnaires of medium complexity.
5.5. Expected to be able to spot trends, identify key findings, and add some
insight/draft conclusions when analysing quantitative data.

5.6.
Qualitative responsibilities (where required) to include designing recruitment and
topic guides, conducting V-Surfs, analysis and the preparation of debrief
documents.
5.7. Expected to be able to spot trends, identify key findings, and add some
insight/draft conclusions when analysing qualitative findings.
5.8. V-Community responsibilities (where required) to include managing the set-up
and design of the community, moderating, managing the process and gaining
significant insight from the information collected.
5.9. Expected to delegate some project work to junior colleagues (where
appropriate) – and provide on the job training to junior staff.
5.10. Expected to play a limited role in presenting to clients e.g. presenting at simple
debriefs or in conjunction with a senior colleague at a more demanding debrief.
5.11. Attend client meetings or fieldwork primarily within the UK (to travel abroad for
client meetings or fieldwork if required).
5.12. Normal office hours will be 9am – 5.30pm. However, flexibility is assumed
subject to workload.

A 2:1 degree
5 GCSE’s minimum
8. Special Working Conditions
Occasional evening work if required on qualitative projects.
