PROJECT BACKGROUND
The Government of India had entrusted NHAI for development, maintenance and management
of National Highway No.2 including section from Km 323.475 to Km 483.687. The Authority had
accordingly awarded the project to M/S Oriental Structural Engineers (P) Ltd. for six laning of
Etawah Chakeri (Kanpur) section of NH-2 under NHDP phase V on DBFOT Toll basis.
The consortium has since promoted and incorporated the concessionaire as a limited liability
company under companies act 1956 i.e. Etawah Chakeri (Kanpur) Highway Private Limited
(ECHPL).

Scope of Work :
A.
PROPOSED WIDENING AND RETROFTTING
The existing carriageway is proposed to be widened by 3.5 m on the outer side. In the
section where existing pavement is of flexible type the embankment would be widen and
flexible pavement 3.5 m wide would be provided. The existing paved shoulder would act as
part of third lane of main carriageway. In the case of rigid pavement additional Cement
Concrete Pavement would be added, a part of which would act as paved shoulder. Total
around 37.361 Km is rigid pavement and rest is flexible pavement. Service road pavement is
flexible pavement.
The paved carriageway shall be 24.5 m wide including paved shoulders. Due to site
constrained it is not possible to provide standard carriage way as per 6-lane manual at
certain locations, as such at following urban location the carriageways shall be -

Though the project corridor length is 160.212 Km including the elevated Highway (Kanpur
bypass 23.214 Km) which is not to be widened; the actual widening of 4 lanes to 6 lanes
required is for Km 136.998. The widening of flexible pavement both side is 92.11 Km and
similarly widening of Rigid Pavement both side is 44.888 Km.

PROPOSED SERVICE ROAD IMPROVEMENTS
The requirement of service roads has been reviewed as per the norms specified in the
manual for 6-laning. As per the 6-lane Manual the width of service roads in normal case shall
be 7.0 m wide with a minimum of 5.5 m.

SLIP IN / SLIP OUT TO AND FROM SERVICE ROADS
The connection between the service roads and six lane carriages shall be with 5.5 m wide slip
in/slip out roads. The slip in would be provided on 89 (LHS 44, RHS 45) locations and slip out
on 90 (LHS 45, RHS 45) locations. At Naubasta crossing at Km 471.600 on Kanpur bye pass
the entry and exit ramps to be provided from elevated portion.
