“He that goes a borrowing goes a sorrowing.”
Benjamin Franklin, from his writings, 1758
Ben Franklin said a mouthful in only eight short words. Giving credit to the original author or creator of
something is known as citing them as a source. These cited sources are put together into a bibliography.
The purpose of the bibliography is to ensure that you are not plagiarizing by using someone else’s ideas
as your own.
“The word plagiarism is actually derived from the Latin word plagiarius, which means kidnapping or
abducting. It is a term that is mainly used in the context of using another's words, ideas or thoughts and
passing it off as your own, without giving due credit to the original author.”
