DECEMBER 2015 PIKES PEAK PAHCOM NEWSLETTER
EXTRA ... EXTRA .... READ ALL ABOUT IT IN THE PPP-N!!
_________________________________________________________________
HAPPY NEW YEAR! I think we are all glad to see 2015 be completed! We all
survived ICD-10 because we are all still here living it! Pikes Peak PAHCOM
provided very successful and important programs in 2015, so I want to
encourage everyone to attend more education programs in 2016! It is the "tool
to survival" in this ever-changing business of healthcare office management!
We are again co-sponsoring events this year with Colorado MGMA and
working closely with our local and state Medical Societies... Do not just pay your
dues, I challenge you to become ENGAGED this year!
WEBSITE UPDATE: The National Office recently upgraded the website and there are a few
bugs. Of importance is everyone's CEU logs are empty! They are working on the issue. It
also will not let us enter January CEUs into your log. Please be patient, this will hopefully be
fixed soon.


NOVEMBER CHAPTER MEETING: National Conference Update: We asked and
she brought her National PAHCOM Conference Presentation on the road and
came to Colorado!!!!!!! Gail Eminhizer, CMM, CGCS, HITCM-PP, Practice Administrator &
National Chapter Support Chairperson, presented her National Conference presentation on
" What Your PAHCOM Membership Can Do For You." Gail showed the Pikes Peak PAHCOM
members multiple tips and tricks about all facets of the PAHCOM website. The membership
absolutely gained so much knowledge about "PAHCOM" and how to keep track of their
CEU's, access on-line programs, find forms, share forms, control the amount of PAHCOM
emails; i.e., so many "take-a-ways" for our chapter members that we are still talking about it!
Gail encouraged all Pikes Peak PAHCOM members to attend next year's National
Conference in October 2016! It was a privilege to have Gail attend our meeting and provide
such valuable "Sharing of Knowledge."
Steve Johanns, CMM, HITCM-PP, provided an update from the National Conference on the
"CMM credential" becoming national college accredited (NCAA) in the near future. Pikes
Peak PAHCOM members participated on multiple committee(s)to assist in the steps to gain
national recognition for the CMM credential. The good news, those that are currently

CMM's will be grandfathered in as long as they keep their CMM credential current. Having
the CMM credential is important for all the members, as some of the education events we
offer will be required to meet important guidelines and regulations. The CMM Examination is
consistently changing and Steve has remained a constant advocate and serves as a
member on the national CMM committee(s). This is great news for our organization moving
forward. Steve Johanns has helped so many of the Pikes Peak PAHCOM membership study
and pass the CMM Exam, we are forever grateful for his dedication to the "CMM credential",
our chapter and national office!
DECEMBER CHAPTER MEETING - EMPTY STOCKING FUND - CHARITY EVENT: Pikes
Peak PAHCOM members, sponsors and guests raised $4500.00 for the Colorado Springs
Empty Stocking Fund! This annual event of bidding for horseback rides, gift cards, wine
baskets and many other special Christmas items. There was some... good... honest
competition to raise money during this annual charity event! Pikes Peak PAHCOM has been
holding this event for 10+years and each year all the members, sponsors and guests
continue to amaze us with their generosity for this most valued Colorado Springs Charity.
Thank you to all the sponsors that contributed gifts and bided on items; to all the members
that attended and for those that shopped and wrapped gifts! And a special thanks to our
Famous MC from Hold-the-Phone -- BOB BOSCHE for being our gracious MC for this event!!!
Congratulations on another successful Pikes Peak PAHCOM Charity Event!!!
VALUE-BASED PAYMENT MODIFIER - VBPM (MEDICARE): A program that includes a
modified payment under the Medicare Physician Fee Schedule based on Quality and Cost
Performance. If your practice is currently not participating in the PQRS Program, now might
be a good the time to start or more negative Medicare adjustments in the coming years.
The Value-Based Payment Modifier which is starting to phase in first large practices and all
providers by 2017. The data from 2015 PQRS is what will be used by CMS for calculating part
of the 2017 VBPM, 2016 composite scores for practices/providers. There can be a positive
adjustment, stay neutral or receive a negative adjustment; separate from PQRS penalties
and EHR penalties or incentives. Also, start having your providers’ document chronic
conditions, as this will help in the goal of providing "triple aim healthcare," the new pathway
of healthcare. It is all about the changes forthcoming in reimbursement!! The Executive
Committee continues its search for a speaker for Value-Based Payment Modifier but here
are some free resources through CMS and Navicure Clearinghouse.
