SUMMER ASSIGNMENT: FRIVH/AP There are 3 elements to the summer assignment: 1) 2) 3) 4) Grammar Reading Speaking Presentation or Writing Alternative AP Students ONLY: Extra Credit: Le Petit Prince Grammar: All Students Complete the worksheets on grammar. Each worksheet will review a specific aspect of grammar components. You will also do ONE worksheet on French Proverbs/Sayings/Idioms 1) 2) 3) 4) Passé Composé and Imparfait (including reflexive verbs) Si clauses with all 3 formula Object Pronouns Relative pronouns You will memorize 3 transitional terms that you will use throughout the course of the year. For every transitional term extra (i.e. 4 or more) that you memorize/will use, you will get ONE extra point on your first quiz or test (you can choose where you want your points added) Reading: All Students You will read 3 major articles (one for each month of your summer vacation). When you return to school, you will complete a comprehension quiz on those 3 articles. Speaking Presentation: (Counts as 1st Test grade) You can choose to do one of the following to present in class. Your presentation will be graded on fluency, grammar, complexity, and vocabulary. Your presentation should be 5 minutes long. You can show video/pictures, but the majority of the time (i.e. at least 4 minutes of you talking and presenting) Choose to do one of the following: 1) Your vacation 2) A French movie you watched and want to present on (movies watched in class in any prior year are not allowed) a. Who are the actresses/ actors/ director/etc.? (look up vocabulary relating to movies because “director” and “le director” do not mean the same thing) b. Present the synopsis using passé compose/imparfait c. Why you liked/disliked the movie and what your recommendation would be d. Why you chose the movie/with whom did you watch/etc. ***ONLY ONE PERSON in class can do a presentation about that movie, so if you watched it with your classmate, you both cannot do the same presentation. Please email me your movie choice so that I can approve of it and to see if someone else hasn’t already picked it. ALTERNATIVE: 1. WRITING Journals: Writing a diary (4 entries: one page long 12 times new roman font/ double spaced) a. You can write about anything: your thoughts, fears, dislikes, family, etc. b. Entries will be private and will be read only by Mme. Freeman unless you want them to be shared in class. 2. Une vignette (a short story) a. You can write a story about anything. Be imaginative. The only rule is that you need to use French! b. (ps: 4 pages double spaced, 12 font size times new roman font style) FOR WRITING, if I suspect ANY use of a translator, you will get a « zero ». I’m going to drill you on this and if there’s any suspicion, I will definitely give you a zero. You must be able to understand and explain to me exactly why you used certain vocabulary choices and grammar choices. If your answer is not acceptable by my terms, you will be getting a zero. I’m VERY serious about this. AP STUDENTS: Finish/complete reading of Le Petit Prince for extra credit (+3% on Midterm) 1) Complete reading “Le Petit Prince”. Explain the significance of the other two planets and Earth. 2) Explain the significance of the fox. 3) Explain your reaction to the end. 4) What do you think this book is about? (Create a poster with all 4 components to share with the class) Extra Credit will only be noted if you complete this by October 1st.
