Description of Couse Content: (3 hour credit) This course covers descriptive statistics, relationships
between variables, interpretation of data and graphs, probability, elementary statistical models, hypothesis
testing, inference and estimation.
Student Learning Outcomes: This course teaches effective methods of taking samples, presenting and
analyzing data and making reliable statistical reference.

Descriptions of major assignments and examinations: 3 regular exams, final exam
Attendance: Attendance will be taken every day in lecture class, although no points will be deducted from
absences. Attendance quizzes will be given in every breakout session. An attendance grade of 100 will be
awarded for present students, a zero for absent students. These count toward the quiz average.
Grading: Three major tests will make up 60% of the final grade, and will be equally weighted. Quizzes
will make up 10% of the final grade. The final exam will make up the remaining 30% of the final exam.
The grading scale is standard one: Ex: 100 - 90 = A, 89 - 80 = B, etc
Breakout Sessions: This course has a mandatory "breakout session". A breakout session is a 50 minute
period that the student will attend once a week(in addition to the two-hour and 20 minute lecture sessions
per week) where students can have their questions answered by a TA for this course. Breakout sessions are
offered for classes with large attendance numbers, like this one. Breakout sessions are smaller
groups(one/fourth of the size of the lecture class), so more attention can be given to the
student. Attendance quizzes are given each session day. If a student is present, he or she will receive a
grade of 100 for the quiz. If the student is absent, a grade of zero will be assigned. If the roll sheet is
passed around, and then the student leaves(before the end of the period), that student may receive a grade
of zero on that quiz. The breakout session for Math 1308-203 is Thursday from 2- 2:50 in PKH
309. Breakout sessions begin on Tuesday, August 28th, and end on Tuesday, December 4th. For Math
1308-203, this means 12 attendance quizzes will be given. There will be no breakout session on test days.
Quizzes: Online quizzes are given weekly, and cover that week's material. The weekly COURSE
CONTENT instructions will state what each quiz will cover. There will be 11 online quizzes. The
attendance quizzes from breakout session will also contribute 132quizzes. All 23 quizzes are equally
weighted, and 5 quiz grades will be dropped. No makeup quizzes will be given. The average of the
quizzes will make up 10% of the final grade.
Exams: There are three regular exams, each worth 20% each. Exams will be given in class, and no
makeup exams will be given. They will have from around 25- 35 questions on them, and you will be given
the whole class period(1 hour and 20 minutes) to complete You will be provided with the Formula Sheet
and the Normal Curve Table that is contained in your Supplemental Note Packet. A scantron is
required. You need form 882 or 882ES. It is the long skinny green one with answer choices A-E per
question, and it has 50 questions on the front and the same on the back. You can get these from the UTA
bookstore.
Final Exam:The Final Exam will count for 30% of your final grade. The final examination is
comprehensive, departmental, and will consist of 75 multiple choice questions. You will be provided with
the Formula Sheet and the Normal Curve Table that is contained in your Supplemental Note Packet. You
will be given 2.5 hours to take the exam. The same scantron as mentioned above is required.

Exam 3: Thursday, Nov. 15th
Exam 2: Tuesday, Oct. 23th
Final Exam: Saturday, December 8th
Drop Policy: Students may drop or swap(adding and dropping a class concurrently) classes through selfservice in MyMav from the beginning of the registration period through the late registration period. After
the late registration period, students must see their academic advisor to drop a class or
withdraw. Undeclared students must see an advisor in the University Advising Center. Drops can continue
through a point two-thirds of the way through the term or session. It is the student's responsibility to
officially withdraw if they do not plan to attend after registering. Students will not automatically be
dropped for non-attendance. Repayment of certain types of financial aid administered through the
University may be required as the result of dropping classes or withdrawing. For more information, contact

Final Review Week: A period of five days prior to the first day of final examinations in the long sessions
shall be designated as Final Review Week. The purpose of this week is to allow students sufficient time to
prepare for final examinations. During this week, there shall be no scheduled activities such as required
field trips or performances; and no instructor shall assign any themes, research problems or exercises of
similar scope that have a completion date during or following this week unless specified in the class
syllabus. During Final Review Week, an instructor shall not give any examinations constituting 10% or
more of the final grade, except makeup tests and laboratory examinations. In addition, no instructor shall
give any portion of the final examination during Final Review Week. During this week, classes are held as
scheduled. In addition, instructors are not required to limit content to topics that have been previously
covered; they may introduce new concepts as appropriate.
