Positive Parenting
Program (Triple P) 1st
meeting
The Triple P – Positive Parenting Program® is a
parenting and family support system designed to
prevent – as well as treat – behavioral and emotional
problems in children and teenagers. It aims to prevent
problems in the family, school and community before
they arise and to create family environments that
encourage children to realize their potential.
This is one of the most effective evidence-based
parenting programs in the world. Triple P gives
parents simple and practical strategies to help them

confidently manage their children’s behavior, prevent
developing problems and build strong, healthy
relationships.
Implementation:
There are two methods to implement the program:
group and individual. The selection of the method to
be utilized will be decided by the recommendation of
the facilitators, according to the specific needs of each
family.
The group method is directed to parents
(guardians/tutors) of children up to 12 years of age.
There’s an introduction meeting and 8 weekly
sessions. The first 4 sessions after the introduction are
two hours long. During these sessions parents actively
participate in a range of exercises to learn about the
causes of child behavior problems, setting specific
goals, and using strategies to promote child
development, manage misbehavior and plan for highrisk situations. Then there are three (15 to 30 minute
approximately, one per week) individual telephone
consultations with the program facilitators to assist
parents with independent problem solving and
intervention, while they are practicing the skills at
home. The group then re-convenes for the last two
hours session to review progress, discuss maintenance
and generalization issues and complete final
assessments.
The individual method provides parents individual
support and intervention. Over ten one-to-one
sessions parents identify the causes of child behavior
problems and to set their own goals for change. They
learn a range of parenting strategies to promote and
develop positive behavior for their child.
