GENERAL INFORMATION ABOUT MEXICO
Officially the United Mexican States, Mexico is one of the largest and most
inhabited countries in Latin America; it occupies the 14th place among countries
extension of the world and the 5th among countries of Latin America. This country
has been featured in major events due to its geographical location and its historical
background.

Geographic Location
Mexico is located in North America, it is bordered on the south by Central
America, on the east by the Caribbean Sea and the Gulf of Mexico and the Pacific
Ocean on the west. It is bordered on the north by the United States of America.

4,538 km. Border Countries: Belize 250 km, Guatemala 962 km and the United
States 3,326 km.

The United Mexican States are a federation of 31 states and 1 Federal District.

GENERAL INFORMATION ABOUT THE CITY OF MÉRIDA
MÉRIDA
The city of Mérida is located in the northwest part of the state of Yucatán, in the
northern portion of the Yucatán Peninsula, less than 50 kilometers (22 miles) from
the Gulf of Mexico coast.
East borders the state of Quintana Roo, to the west with Campeche and to the
north is the Gulf of Mexico. This state has a very flat topography and it is only 30
feet above sea level.

Language
In the state capital of Yucatán, Mérida, the predominant spoken language is
Spanish, however in rural Mayan communities still survives the Mayan language.
The Maya is an American Indian language and it is spoken mainly in the states of
Yucatán, Campeche and Quintana Roo, as well as Belize and some parts of
Guatemala.
The Mayan language is widely used and there are academies dedicated exclusively
to its teaching and dissemination.
From the creation of the General Law of Linguistic Rights in 2003, the Yucatec
Mayan, like the rest of the original indigenous languages of Mexico, is recognized
as a national language.
Climate
The climate of Mérida is hot and humid. The rainy season runs from May to
January, although rain is not uncommon during the so-called dry months
February, March and April. The hottest months are April and May, sometimes the
temperature rising to 40 ° C (104° F).
Currency
The Mexican Peso (MXN) is the official currency. Exchange rate is 17.13 Mexican
pesos for one American dollar (USD) and 19.13 Mexican pesos for one Euro (EUR).

•Frequency: 60 Hz
•Power sockets: type A / B
In Mexico the standard voltage is 127 V. The standard frequency is 60 Hz. The
power sockets that are used are of type A / B.

US but often not the other way around

Arrival and transfer:
The representatives of CNDH México will be at Mérida Airport waiting for the
participants prior to the scheduled time of arrival of each one of them. Participants
will be welcomed and accompanied directly to the hotel.
The transfer to the airport to take the flight back, will be done according to the
itinerary previously referred to this CNDH. In the event of a change, participants
are kindly requested to inform with a day in advance to a representative of the
CNDH in order to coordinate their travel.
The transfer to and from the airport is a service offered free of charge as a courtesy
to the participants by the CNDH. Other transfers are not included in the stay.
The complimentary accommodation does not include the following expenses:
- Room Service
- Minibar expenses
- Hotel Restaurants out of the schedule established by the organizing committee
- Any type of telephone calls
- Spa Services
- and/or any other extra fees for the use of the hotel facilities that are not specified
here.
Working Languages and Papers of the International Conference:
The working languages of the Conference will be: Arabic, English, French, and
Spanish. Interpreters will be available.
