Week of February 21, 2016 Freshmen 1A and 1B I CANS I can write a compare/contrast essay over Romeo and Juliet and John Lee’s types of love article. I can take annotated notes of a text while reading to see how characters develop and change over the course of a text. WHAT WE ARE DOING I’d love to say we are done with our body paragraphs, but for the most part 1A is done, but 1B is not. For the groups who are done with the two body paragraphs, I will be going “door-to-door” to instruct them on how to write the conclusion paragraph. I’ll still be pushing the others on those body paragraphs. Students who have completed the essay, will begin reading Act II of Romeo and Juliet on their own, using No Fear Shakespeare. We will resume the aloud with parts reading of Romeo and Juliet by Wednesday. ASSESSMENT Completed essay Common Core/PARCC/TNReady-ish test over Acts I and II by end of the week, hopefully. I can analyze text and answer text-dependent questions related to The Grapes of Wrath. Monday Group work on the academic vocabulary. Making a poster with examples in a group. Tuesday-Thursday Group work on a synthesis essay about a controversial topic. Teacher will guide reading of six sources. Thesis writing and development of essay with punch ending. I can write a poetry analysis about a poem, using at least one new piece of information I can peer edit another student’s writing I can answer text-dependent questions about The Scarlet Letter I can analyze AP questions regarding The Scarlet Letter I can write questions for a Socratic seminar related to The Scarlet Letter I can take notes about The Scarlet Letter I can read The Scarlet Letter idependently in a sustained silent reading environment.
